Because they're both star fighters who command purses that make PPV the best option to make the fight. Pretty simple. They do generate high views. Ward's mismatches draw bigger audiences than most fighters can, let alone his big fights. Very few fighters can claim bigger HBO audiences.

The success or failure will be seen after the fight. Maybe I will be wrong but I don't see this even generating much. If it does, good. If it doesn't, they lose out on big exposure on the fighters.

Ward attract damn near same views lil g attracts fighting on HBO and is also proven, krusher has the resume to attract more people into tuning in, this is both the best and most popular fight in sport right now to make

GGG isn't known to be ppv success. Krusher's last fight had how many views? There is obviously potential. But very low chance of this exceeding 200k buys. They should have fought better opponents for their tuneups. Didn't help their popularity at all.

HBO budget is seemingly not enough to pay these guys what they want off of an HBO Live fight - so ppv it is, same reason GGG-Lemieux was PPV. Essentially the hype gets ahead of the real actual popularity of some fighters.
