Comments Thread For: Sergey Kovalev on Andre Ward-Brand: Anything Can Happen!

Sergey Kovalev obviously wants Andre Ward to win Saturday night. It's the only outcome that'll enable Kovalev and Ward to proceed with their lucrative HBO Pay-Per-View fight for Kovalev's IBF, WBA and WBO light heavyweight titles November 19 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Ward announces that he is taking a leave from the sport because health comes first.

Ward is already an Olympic champion and HOF...respect it

If Ward never fought again he's credentials are solid enough to go to HOF for all these novice fans so when they say Kov will destroy Ward they don't know what they're talking bout. Both are world class fighters and both will be tested. I just happen to believe Ward has the better pedigree which is why he'll win.

GGG fighting Brook = the Anti-Whites on here said GGG is picking on smaller guys...

Ward hasn't even fought a true 175 pounder at 175 yet and hasn't fought a serious opponent in years = Ward = Lb for Lb king...

Ward is fighting a smaller guy, no outrage over it... if it were a White fighter like Kova..different story..

I can't see why Ward is taking this fight - at all. I'm not talking about the actual professional match-up, which of course is not competitive at all but rather I can't see how this helps his preparation at all. I mean, he could find better sparring and go rounds in sparring. His last fight made sense as preparation. This makes no sense at all.

Yeah well - there's agendas in here. There's a few white posters who are clearly racist and then there is a multitude of black posters who can't see anything positive about almost any white fighter and worship nearly all black fighters. Yet if you call them out on it you are the racist. It is what it is. I understand it and try to navigate around the hypocrisy and just enjoy the sport and the serious comments.

Most of them bashed GGG for fighting his mandatory, Wade, because it was 100 to 1 odds. Lets see what they have to say about Ward choosing, not being mandated, to fight a 100 to 1 underdog.

Somebody compared Goovkin-Wade with Garcia Salka the other day. Saying that Garcia-Salka was only 100-3 - but yeah it was a voluntary - big difference!!

Like I said above, I can't see why Ward is taking this fight. He did come out and say other fights weren't available but that doesn't quite ring true because Brand was in the picture a year ago before Ward finally fought Smith. Seems like he has been some kind of back up plan for many months now.

Why fight Brand when you could surely pick a LHW around the 25-30 ranking level?

Ive seen those Salka comparisons, cant wait to see them make the same comparison here. I agree with you that Brand isnt a good prep for Kovalev. I thought Berrera was a good 'tune up' for Ward to take, but Brand is just not good comp at 175.

Of course, theyll say Brand is a top ten LHW
