Comments Thread For: Stevenson vs. Kovalev: SHO VP Still Interested in Making Fight

When the negotiations between light heavyweight champion Adonis Stevenson and 175-pound titleholder Sergey Kovalev first fell apart in early 2014, Stevenson jumped from HBO to Showtime. The fighters' network alignments have been the major reason why the fight hasn't happened since.

Main Events turned down a $4 mil license fee for the fight. If you're gonna sign fighters to exclusive network deals you should put up the money to make the fight instead of forcing it to be PPV.

        STFU Showtime guy.

I'm still not even clear if Showtime & Stevenson still have a deal in place. Why are HBO & Showtime bidding on a fight if Showtime doesn't even have a legit deal with either fighter? Makes no f#cking sense. Its like Showtime is injecting themselves into the fight talks & Stevenson, GYM & Haymon are all okay with it cuz it starts a bidding war.

And I'm not saying the business shouldn't work like that where promoters/networks bid on fights regardless of any contractual obligation cuz I think that would actually be a better system than this powerful promoter era we are in, but the reality is thats not how the business works currently so Stevenson holding firm with Showtime being in the mix is doing nothing to help Stevenson (unless Stevenson is legit scared of catching a L & doesn't really want the fight & the dummies claim he is & despite the career high payday he'd get).

They just need to quit and let it go, this fight isn't going to ever happen.

The last time there were any real negotiations, wasnt it team Kovalev that turned down purse bids?

Stevenson KO's Kovalev and stuns everyone-bet Stevenson KO

Stevenson stuns the boxing world by KO'ing Kovalev and surprising everyone.
Bet Stevenson the convicted pimp and woman abuser felon and thank the Bearcat later when you collect. But Ward beats Stevenson off a decision even though Ward goes down off that right hand possibly 2 times. FACT

When Espinoza is asked if he would let Anthony Joshua break his exclusive deal with Showtime to fight Tyson Fury on HBO, and he says "As a ... theory, sure," that means no lol. When you have to say what amounts to "in theory," before you say "sure," that means no. That means, "yeah that probably would never happen and I will sound like a total hypocrite if I don't say yes, so yeah man, in theory, sure, sure." But if it ever came about, **** no!

                Same old Espinoza.

Sergey Kovalev KO'd Gabriel Campillo in the 3rd round.

Artur Beterbiev KO'd Gabriel Campillo in the 5th round.

Gabriel Campillo KO'd Thomas Williams Jr in the 5th round.

Adonis Stevenson KO'd Thomas Williams Jr in the 4th round.

So Stevenson looked like a beast against the guy who looked like **** against a guy who looked like even bigger **** against Kovalev and Beterbiev. PBC sold you bullisht once again, propaganda that Williams Jr. was a decent opponent. In reality he was Blake Caparello level and Stevenson looked dominant just like Kovalev looked dominant against Caparello. But it doesn't tell us anything about how the fight would go. I still see it as a pick em fight as always but Kovalev wins 2 of 3 in my opinion. He's the better boxer, with the better jab, and a more powerful off hand. Stevenson is stronger, faster, and has the better one-punch shot. But he's also gone 12 rounds in two of his last five fights, including against Bika and Fonfara who Kovalev would have KO'd, so his power may not show as much against higher level guys. If Kovalev can take the big single shots then the fight is over, he will wear Stevenson down and KO him.

Contrast that to the one guy who took Kovalev 12, Chilemba a defensive guru. Fonfara and Bika are nothing like that. They both walk into shots, would be tailor made for Kovalev, and yet Stevenson couldn't stop them. Bika isn't even a light heavyweight. So I'd be careful with yours bets if this fight gets made. The Williams fight may have created a mirage, a betting trap. Go back and watch the Bika or Fonfara fights, then see how confident you are in betting Stevenson. Regardless, Stevenson will keep ducking Kovalev so it won't happen.
