Before I get accused of being a Golovkin nuthugger or what not, let me make it clear that I'm not a fanboy of anyone. People are giving Golovkin flack for fighting a WW, I'm not going to sit here and lie and say that Brook is really a MW because he's not. Brook is really a small JMW. That being said, Golovkin cannot get anyone half decent in his weight class to fight him, so when Eubank didnt sign the deal by the deadline and Brook offered him a career high payday he obviously took it. He was also obligated to fight for HBO by september.
Now I see people saying why doesn't he move up. I'd love to see him go to 168 and fight much bigger guys, but GGG has said his goal was always to become undisputed. Has him and his team said things that contradict this? Sure, but at the end of the day, is it worth abandoning this goal for Bute, the Dirrell brothers, or Callum Smith? I don't think so. If he can lock down Zurdo/Degale to a similar contract like Ward did with Kovalev, I'm all for it.
