At one time jail was used to hold a prisoner until trial and conviction. Punishment was corporal for the poor and fiscal for the rich, In other words, a man only stayed in jail until they figured out whether to take it out of his wallet, his butt, or both. AB should be able to buy his freedom, if he has any money left, like any other rich man in America.
