He's one of the two guys he wanted to fight last fall. Rohan Murdock, 29th ranked SMW was rejected by NSBC. So he chose Brand, a 25th ranked SMW for his LHW tuneup.

Saying that Brand was not his first choice is absolutely laughable. There are at LEAST 50 better options than Brand . Hell, I think most of us would have been happier with a 50th ranked LHW rather than a 39 year old SMW.

Your post quality has become absolute shyt and it's sad to see. #4 LHW Eleider Alvarez was approached but he declined VADA so they had to move down the list, and had a hard time getting anyone to sign (which is understandable).

I hate him taking Brand as an opponent and have nothing good to say about that. But, saying they went straight to Brand is ignorant as this has already been discussed by Hunter.

I think you're taking it too personally over recent disagreements regarding Golovkin. I think you're still a great poster and have nothing but respect for you.

I definitely do not think they went straight to Brand, and do believe they did explore other options. I just absolutely refuse to believe that this is the best they could do. If I was Ward, Alexander Brand would not be anywhere near my top100 choices. The guy is inexperienced, old and small.
From what I remember, Shabransky wanted the Ward fight, but apparently 'priced himself out' by asking for $300k, which is what Barrera got. That is NOT pricing himself out. That's a low ass purse to get vs. a P4Per on HBO.

There must have been 10 other guys who would have taken on the challenge of facing Ward @ LHW for $200K. Anyone on pages 2 and 3 of Boxrec LHW rankings would have been better than Alexnader Brand. I'm realllllly not asking for a lot here. I'm not demanding he fight Beterbiev. To me, it sounds like they tried 4-5 different guys and then said screw it, Brand agreed to fight us last year let's see if he's still available.

This is by far the worst fight of 2016. The only fight that was potentially worse than this was Zurdo's title defense against 100th ranked MW. But at least that guy was still young and was his voluntary, not a tuneup before a showdown with another P4Per.
