Paul Smith has played down the idea that he will return in October. The former two-time world title challenger had been set to return in the autumn on a card at the ECHO Arena in Liverpool, live on Sky Sports.

He's been talking about a world title shot despite not being ranked in the top 15 of any of the sanctioning bodies, and not fighting anyone of note since his treble of defeats to Ward and Abraham.

My guess is he'll try and get a fight with DeCarolis/Sturm, either of whom would handle him comfortably. But even after suffering another defeat, he's likely to fight a journeyman or two and recommence his campaign for a world title shot.
