I can totally relate. We also grew up really poor, but had parents who were hell bent on sending us to private schools, getting us top notch education, etc.

We were looked down on HARD, but by family. My dad came from an affluent family and grew up with money, so the fact that he ended up being poor was a major source of laughter for them.

Personally, I had major confidence issues as a kid. I was fat, had acne, was and still am a massive nerd, etc. Now, my self confidence and self belief border on arrogance, but I only look down on people who do the same to me. That's why I don't do well with rich people. You'll find me hanging with the delivery men, the cleaners, the builders, speaking my native tongue as opposed to the rich people of the area even though my English is better than theirs, because salt of the earth type people are my favourite.
