Dawson fell off amazing fast

Dawson never fought to his potential because he was always replacing trainers. He looked his best in the Adamek fight and that was nine years ago.
It's obvious to see what happened to Dawson. Every trainer is different, every trainer has different ways of getting the best out of their fighters. For example when Chad hired Floyd Sr in 2007 he bought into Floyd's system, Sr made Chad fight in a way that was effective. When Floyd Sr was replaced and Chad hired Eddie Muhammad he looked different (obviously), he ended up looking worse simply because Eddie Muhammad is not Floyd Sr. None the less Chad was going to fight to his potential eventually under Muhammad, but Chad fired EM and then hired Emmanuel Steward. After one fight Chad fired Steward and then hired John Scully. For the Hopkins fight Chad again looked different, he looked worse. It was not because Scully is a bad trainer, it was because Scully did not have enough time to work with Chad. Scully did not have a full assessment of Dawson; his strength, his weaknesses and how he should be fighting.
Take Gennady Golovkin for example. When he arrived in the US he hired Abel Sanchez and stuck with him since. Over six years Sanchez became familiar with Golovkin therefore he's able to get the best out of GGG. Sanchez understands how GGG should be fighting. Golovkin is not replacing trainers all the time, if he did what Chad was doing he probably have an L on his record. Had Dawson just stuck with a trainer before he won the title or even with Eddie Muhammad he would still be champion. The lesson learned here is that just because a boxer gets a new trainer doesn't mean he will automatically improve, in most cases it takes time. Chads problem was the group of people he was hanging around with and his ethic when it came to being dedicated in the gym. He is always going to be a slick southpaw with good boxing skills no one can take that away from him he is a former champion for a reason and before the Pascal fight there was a lot of hype behind him. He lost to Ward in a division he should have never gone down to and in the Stevenson fight I think he just got caught while he was cold by a big puncher in Adonis and that's just how fights go sometimes. The loss to Karpency was bad he didnt look good at all in that fight and I think that goes back to his training camps, but I did watch his last fight which was only a few months ago and he looked sharp was putting combinations together and most importantly his movement looked very good and he was elusive, if he fights like that against Alvarez he would outbox him for sure and I think he has a good chance at working himself up for one last title shot.
I don't believe hes shot hes only 34 years old and he haunt been in too many wars especially with his defensive style he can go on to make one last run but its all dependent on him and how hard he worksComment

I'd guess this is the nail in the coffin of Chad's career. A win over Alvarez would have put him back on the map. Doubt he gets another shot in his career.Comment

No it was his poor career decisions and bad attitude that finally caught up with him. He would still be champion right now had he stuck with one trainer before he won the title or at least with Eddie Muhammad because that is who he worked with the longest. I do agree that if he stuck with one trainer, he'd have gotten a little further. Floyd sr. or mustapha muhammad were good fits for him
I agree....he was mentally beaten by Ward...that was it if he didnt have a strong consistent team with a beating like that....he never took a beating even in loses after or before.
He did go far though....ten years fighting the best 175 had to offer...only thing he could have done better was go undefeated because he fought almost everyone who mattered besides kovalevComment
