Groves isn't slick, and Hearn knows it. Callum Smith is lined up to fight the coming winner of Jack-Degale, either resulting in a massive James Degale vs Callum Smith fight in the UK or Badou Jack vs Callum Smith (depending on the type of interest that Jack-Degale draws, a fight that could likely be held in Las Vegas with MGM Resorts).

With Smith positioned the way he is, Groves sees making his call-out public as a means to shortcut his way into prime position (if he were to actually get the fight, he'd be positioned for Degale-Groves II or Jack-Groves II, another shot at a world title).

You're right of course, but you can't really fault Groves for making the attempt. Also Mundo could really use a name like Groves' on his resume - and it would make either of the title fights you mentioned that much bigger should Callum make it through the Saint.

Actually I really like this fight. Sure Groves seems to have lost a step since the Froch losses and Mundo has yet to really prove himself at world level, but stylistically I think this one has the potential for some real fireworks.

Callum Smith is in line for the WBC, and has everything to lose and nothing to gain from fighting Groves, that being said Groves would definetly beat Callum Smith imo, sure he has power and impressive body work and height and reach, but other then that he aint special, Badou Jack gonna school Callum Smith, hes just looked good against the opposition hes faced, he will get exposed soon enough

It's a good fight and one i'd like to see. However, i don't blame Hearn and Smith for looking past it. Smith has made himself the mandatory for the DeGale Vs Jack winner and is focusing in on that.

It would be a good fight though.

Groves won't get Smith. Maybe down the line. But not any time soon. Callum wants the payday against the winner of DeGale/Jack. Don't think Callum will get the fight immediately either. Everyone's time gets wasted.
