Larry Holmes is actually one of the funnier & wiser fighters I know of....

I loved it when he had one of his numerous "farewell" fights (back in '96). It was on CBS, & it was Father's Day. After he ko'd his foe, Tim Ryan asked him if he'd like to send Father's Day wishes out to everyone.....& Larry responded with- "I'd like to dedicate this Father's Day victory to all the mother's out there, who have to deal with all of those deadbeat dads."

        C'mon.....that's ****in' gold.

              shut the hell up!

anyway, i knew about that quote. i read the book for god sakes. it's called "facing ali" and it's basically 15 of ali's opponents saying what it was like to fight ali, in addition getting some background info on the fighters themselves.

Larry Holmes was a bitter guy early on. He is far that now. He has casino's,resturants, hotels, office buildings and a legacy that continues to grow with the passing of time. Holmes wasn't flashy or overly exciting in his prime, but he was damn good.

Nothing but respect from me. As far as the comment regarding Ali and his "Silencing of the Snakes"...truth hurts

                  Yeah that's the one.

I got that book for free. I went up to the manager at Tower Records and asked if they had any boxing books and he just gave me that one.
