Comments Thread For: Pacquiao: I Still Have Passion, I'm Still Young, I'm Still Strong!

Filipino boxing hero Manny Pacquiao has declared he still has the passion for the sport and may come out of retirement, although there are no plans for a fight this year. Pacquiao, 37, a newly elected senator in the Philippines, told AFP on Wednesday night that his top priority was his political career but that his love for boxing had not diminished.

Pac beat Mayweather with ONE ARM. He has nothing left to prove but now that Pedcheater Jr got chased out of the sport by Pac and GGG the new era of the Warrior has begun and Pac is definitely a welcomed addition.

I was at his last fight. Ring side, he still looked as deadly as he did with cotto but farrrrrr more patient. Patience is a skill.

Were you ringside at Cotto? Anyway he used to throw 800-1100 punches in a fight, now he throws less than 500. You can call it patience but he clearly lacks the stamina he once had. Remember when he had Mayweather hurt, he either hurt his shoulder again following up, which is what I think, or he stepped back and let Mayweather off the hook because he didn't want to get punched out. When did prime Pacquiao have to worry about punching himself out in the 4th round? He used to be a tornado, now he's just a strong wind that blows every 20 seconds then has to subside and recharge until the next gust of wind 20 seconds later. We've seen him have this problem ever since the first Bradley fight where he did nothing and rested the first two minutes of every round, then fought for one minute a round in the last minute to take the rounds in most people's eyes. I still thought he won but it was clear even then his stamina wasn't superhuman anymore. It's just not the same and it doesn't allow him to apply the same pressure against top defensive fighters that is needed to dominate them as in the past. Prime Pacquiao knocks out Algieri easily, in the first couple rounds, doesn't go 12.

So no he's not the same. Also I understand why being ringside, Pacquiao is still so fast, you would assume he's still as fast as he always was, but prime Pacquiao was even faster. He would lift his punches up like he was lifting thin air, effortless, like a ballerina. Now he's still 80% as fast but the punches are heavier to lift, the coordination and effortlessness is not there as much, he can't bring hard shots from absolutely any angle without any wind up at any moment to catch guys off guard like he used to. Prime Pacquiao could hit even a fast moving target like Floyd at will, because prime Pacquiao had that effortless speed and accuracy and power. These days it's not as effortless so he misses a lot of shots by a hair just like many others do against Mayweather. Just not the same guy.

Would still love to see Pacquiao-Crawford though. As Pacquiao has aged he's continued to fight much bigger guys, which is double trouble. You get slower, while they get bigger or stay bigger than you... bad combination. Would love to see him back at 140 for a career encore for a couple years, or at least fight guys more his own size. Pacquiao-Crawford is still a top 5 fight in the sport but fricken Bob Arum doesn't want it yet because he doesn't think Pacquiao has slowed enough to lose to Crawford. Gamboa put a hurt on Crawford before eating huge hooks from the much bigger, longer guy who had target practice on Gamboa trying to come into range to punch, and Mikey Bay put some good shots on Crawford too. Arum knows if Pacquiao gets those same shots in and more because it's Pacquiao, Crawford could be in big trouble. That fight will happen when Pacquiao is 39 or 40 if he's still fighting then, so that he's old enough to pass the torch to Crawford and give Bob his next big PPV star. No way is he risking that right now unfortunately. Just shows as much as I criticized Floyd for ducking Pacquiao, and Al Haymon for having his fighters duck everyone, Bob Arum is almost as bad himself. Not quite, seeing as he at least put Crawford in with Postol when Haymon kept buying him off to let Danny Garcia duck him, but still pretty bad.

The biggest problem of great boxers is that some of them don't know when they should stop to not ruin their own legacy, like Roy Jones Jr. or president of the Philippines
