Should Margarito have served jailtime for illegal handwraps (deadly weapon)

A similar incident happened back in the 80s when Luis Resto had no padding in his gloves, gave Billy Collins Jr a beating and blured Collins eyesight for life. Margarito was caught cheating prior to Mosley hasn't had a knockout since. He made Cotto look like he was beat with a baseball bat.

Do you think Margarito should have been charged with "attempted use of a deadly weapon" or something of the sort? Too add insult to injury, he's not ashamed of it!

He certainly wrecked Cotto's career potential and sent him on a downward spiral which only by borderline-superhuman endurance Cotto has been able to overcome. It's crazy that Margarito was/is still allowed to continue in boxing. He should have been banned from the sport.

nope no crime was committed, The district attorney refused to charge Margarito because no crime was committed. The wraps only had trace elements of Talcum powder (Baby powder) which is normal, so contrary to what alot of haters will lead you to believe is not plaster of paris (as if plaster of paris can even be used in gloves Idiots).

Luis Resto went to prison for 2 years for committing a crime.

Are there still people around here who really don't know what the **** happened?

The lab results showed no significant signs of plaster in Toney's handwraps, no more than you'd find in any handwraps!!!

His trial with the CSAC was held before the lab results ever came back. So to answer the OP's ******ed question, you can't send someone to jail w/o any evidence, and the lab results confirmed no evidence.

It's insane how so many people ignore the truth and constantly repeat a lie. The facts are out there, but they want to cling to the fabulous story. If anything Margarito should've sued the CSAC for the entire mishandling of the situation. It arguably cost him the fight and damaged his career.

I am old and well aware of that case. But, Ariza shakes and Memo magic are no better.

Piss is more easily masked than plaster hand wraps.

But, hey, bonds would have been the man with out chemical help! PAC too, Floyd too, Marquez too, most the top guys..,

I don't think I've ever seen or fully understood what exactly was done to or was in Margarito's wraps so I don't feel 100% confident in saying yes or no for Margarito's situations, but with the danger of boxing on its worse days I think for sure its a type of offense that could be suable under the right situations & should result in jail/prison time if convicted.

No, I don't think he should have done jail time. He was punished. There is no proof he ever used loaded wraps on anyone. You say he was caught using loaded wraps in the Cotto fight because he messed Cotto up. That is just your assumption and not proof. The fact that he scored no KOs after the Mosley fight also proves nothing. He was found guilty of attempting to use loaded wraps prior to the Mosley fight and that is all he was found guilty of. You can believe with all your heart that he used loaded wraps on Cotto but that is only your belief and not proof. He was never charge with any crime in regards to Cotto because there was no proof he committed a crime even if everybody thinks he did. In some countries you must prove yourself innocent if your are accused of a crime. In the USA you must be proven guilty. You are taking evidence from the Mosley crime and going back in time with that evidence to convict Margarito of beating up Cotto with loaded wraps.Justice doesn't work that way in America. You can't punish someone on a maybe or a probably. You most prove it. I know this isn't a popular answer or what you want to hear but it's the truth as best I know it.
