But wanting it to bomb ain't gonna hurt hbo.

    If anything it'll hurt boxing.

If u can't pony up $50 to watch a good fight, don't complain.

    Just stream it and stfu.

This is why boxers cherry pick. If they can't get big money fighting top opponents and fighting who the fans want them to fight, why risk a loss.
Relax....never said I wanted I to bomb or that I can't pony Up $50. It's called an opinion, that's what the forum is for, to give yours and read others...

If anything, HBO probably wants this fight to bomb so that Arum doesn't have to shove such fights down HBO's throat.

HBO wanted Matthysse to win in the Postol fight. Didn't happen.

You realize with no ppv the fight doesn't happen right?

        Hbo wouldn't buy it.

You think Postol and crawford fights each other for peanuts on tru TV or what?

Some ppv is because the promoter wants to milk it for the money.

Some though are because TV doesn't buy it or can't afford it and ppv is the only way to hold the fight.
The model is detrimental to the future of sport. We need to be pushing networks to pay for the fights we want to see, not encouraging them to showcase stuff like Ward against nobody in a **** because the hardcores are willing to pay PPV prices just to see a good fight.

PPV numbers for the superstars have been steadily increasing since the early 2000s while general boxing viewership has been decreasing. That isn't a coincidence.

So what exactly are the advantages if this fight fails in the PPV?

Who the heck is gonna order this besides the hardest of hardcore fans? Boxing is a fking train wreck... Politics,Ducking, mismatches, and cheap networks killing the sport
Smh I'm gonna watch it just because I can easily get a few ppl to come over and chip in $5-$10 and order it. If I was a dude that had no friends tho, I guess I would just have to wait till the replay to see it. No way I'm paying $60 for this. None of the bars around my way are gonna have the fight either.

Expectations aren't that high...but I will just take your point on the PPV thing because I doubt it does that good in that dept but...

They still might turn a profit with this fight seeing as though Nebraska fans are the type to travel to support their athletes. The same thing was true for the Ohio Pavlik fans when he fought in Atlantic City and the ARkansas Jermain Taylor when he fought in southern states and in Vegas against Hopkins. That is the type of fan Crawford is bringing is boxing (or back to boxing maybe)... so I wouldn't be surprised to see a decent gate. Plenty of walk up sales for the people who just happen to be in town and keep seeing all these NE fans walking around and wonder what's going on. Tickets prices are good for fight of this caliber. Maybe PPV won't be a smash but the whole event won't be a bomb

So let's assume this fight bombs. Will we then expect HBO to be more charitable and throw their money away and say yes to whatever amount these fighters demand? What's are the positive scenarios?

Postol got a mere $90K in the Matthysse fight (Matthysse got $500K). Crawford got $1.2 mill in the Lundy fight. Go figure who wants more money.

What is the definition of bomb in this case?

                      Anything below 100K - 300K? What?
