See, I understand that society creates extremely judgmental demands, but boxing is the epitome of that. Ward is simply explaining that because Kovalev convincingly won on points, got hit, he's suddenly 'tailor-made' for an elite boxer....we all know that's bull****.

Kovalev is a world class boxer who just beat a world class boxer in Isaac Chilemba. Chilemba is the kinda guy who has never been beaten convincingly by anybody (not Tony Bellew, current WBC Cruiserweight champ, not Eleider Alvarez, former Olympian and no.1 WBC mandatory). Kovalev is the only fighter to really thump Chilemba where he nearly stopped him in the 7th, 8th and 12th round. Nobody Chilemba has fought really had him in major trouble like that.

Also people forget that Ward has had his share of tough fights, it's not like he's not lost some rounds. He got his licks against Boone, Kessler, Froch, even Barrera in his last fight. Ward understands this is boxing, so pay attention CASUAL FANS, 'you're gonna get hit' no matter what. This is boxing, so if Kov lost a few rounds, and dominate the rest of the fight, why give him the flack?

Also, think about this - Kov has more media committments, fighting in his hometown, returning to the arena where he encountered the tragic death of Roman Simakov, different training regiments, being sick with the flu - All of this probably factored into his so-called 'off-night'. Then he still went out there and busted up a top 10 contender. End of story.

Let's wait on Ward-Brand. Kov and Ward has the same quote. Focus on your opponent - this is Boxing, don't make predictions cause it only takes one punch.

That's a good mentality to have. People overreact after fights all the time not realizing what happened has nothing to do with a matchup against a completely different fighter.

Kovalev convincingly beat a top 10 caliber opponent and that's somehow a bad thing. This is where HBO's"KO's or bust" mentality comes back to hurt them because fans go into these fights expecting KOs.

Kov did what he had to do vs a decent fighter with a style he NEEDED to overcome before Ward.

It's a little ridiculous to expect Kovalev to send everyone he fights home on a stretcher. That is the hype about him more or less though, it's not his fault.

He didn't stop Hopkins either, but because BHop is a legend he got full faith and credit for his win there. He deserves the same credit for his win over Chilemba. He drove forward and dictated the fight to beat a crafty veteran boxer (with some advantageous attributes- younger, taller, longer pro career and more pro-rounds boxed, etc).

It doesn't diminish the fight with Ward at all. It even makes the case that Kovalev can deal with Ward's skill if he stays even tempered and doesn't try to force a KO.

Ward vs. Kovalev is still the best thing on the schedule this year, hopefully Ward cruises through his final tune up as well to set the stage.

We have to be honest, Kovalev was getting tagged at will by Chilemba. I always knew Ward would beat him, now I'm convinced Ward could stop him if he doesn't coast.
