Wow. Looks like it's all on Khan. That's a shame. I guess the thinking was he could fight Canelo, make a lot of money and lose a fight he's supposed to lose rather than face Brook and let everyone see in an even match-up, who was really better. A cop out that hurts. But still a cop out. Haha
Was the Money for a Brook-Khan Fight That Bad?

It just doesn't make any sense. Instead of making a competitive fight where both make a boatload of money in their home country, they each fight a middleweight and most likely got knocked out. I mean, yes. Everyone expected Khan to lose to Canelo and nothing was proven. Everyone expects Golovkin to beat Brook. So again, nothing will be proven. And yet, the question of who the best welterweight in the world or at least in the UK is, goes unanswered. It's a very ridiculous situation. The fictional world would never even try to put this in a book. No one would believe it had any plausibility. Yet here in reality, it happened. I don't think I'll ever figure this one out. Money and respect for the winner or possibly both versus money and no respect to either? What a shame.Almost inexplicable that they let that one slip away. It initially seemed like Brook wanted to sit on his titles for a while but, in the end, Khan seems to be the one that let it die. All that potential money, lost. Now these two chuckle heads will have a chance to go for it again with a recent, embarrassing ko on their records. Will make a wonderful build-up, them bickering over who got leveled worse.Comment

Indeed. And, remember the context, this was right after Froch put 80,000,000,000,0000,000 asses in the seats at Wembly. This was THE next British superfight. There's no way it wouldn't happen. As Joe Pesci said in Casino, "Somehow, we fked it all up."It just doesn't make any sense. Haha. I saw where Froch even said it was Khan-not Brook- holding the fight up. Such a shame. And great Casino reference. Pesci has a way with words or one particular word at least.Comment

Very good breakdown...The money was massive; the only hang-up is that the implications of the fight in their home country dwarfed any impact that the money could've had on either guy. Amir Khan has a sense of this, which is why he's looked elsewhere in every instance possible (even in taking less money to risk fighting at 155lbs).
If Amir Khan, the British Olympic silver medalist, who the public saw develop from the start on TV, gets flattened in 4 rounds by the other British welterweight that everyone in the country has wanted him to fight, all other potential business for him, in the UK/Middle East would be impacted.
No one cared about the Alvarez fight, because everyone had the sense that Khan had to be perfect to have a chance, and he's not known for being perfect; Khan has spent a significant amount of his career dogging the merits of even thinking about fighting Kell Brook, so getting flattened then would be tough.
And yeah your right, Kahn had a opportunity to make big $ now, with the brook fight still in the bank.
I've always have found it incredibly odd that Kahn never decided to strictly fight in the U.K. Though. Any idea why that is? I can't figure that one out, over there he is a star, here, not so much.Comment

Totally.
Hard to explain why Khan robbed Britain of that fight. Even his own promoter said he should do it.
Now it's lost most of its glamour as people kind of know Brook would destroy him.Comment

No not really. When he moved abroad, the money wasn't there in the UK. It's not like it is now. The money was in the States and he wanted to crack the States for the big money and to build his brand. He had conquered the UK. He was the biggest name in the UK.Very good breakdown...

Khan was basically looking at not losing to Brook, Losing to brook would be career suicide. Domestic fighters who avoid their main rivals always avoid the money aspect and look at the risk to their respective careers...E.g Ricky Hatton ducking Junior Witter.Comment

Khan wanted a guaranteed purse of 10mil, which meant Brook though being a champ had to take less than 2mil.. He was gunning for 40-60 which meant Khan would make 6mil and Brook 4. The total pot itself was 13-14 mil..
Khan made around 6mil or more fighting Canelo and always Knew Brook fight will be waiting for him with or without the titles..
And frankly if Khan decides to retire the. Brook can be his last fight because he will be the underdog and has more chances of getting beaten in this fight..
I think Khan is cashing out on all available high paying fights before Brook..Comment
