Kovalev did what he had to do to get past Chilemba, and truthfully it wasn't even a close fight. We shall see how Ward does vs Brand. Kovalev's focus and mental sharpness will be on a far different level when he and Ward finally climb in the ring.

That will be interesting because it's mostly irrelevant to the Kovalev fight. Brand is super-awkward, hits guys with strange punches, hasn't been KO'd. I wonder if Ward will use it to get some ring-time, test his cardio, work on some things. Or, if he'll just go in with the intent to make a statement and knock him out. Knowing Ward, I think it'll be a little bit of both. He'll use it to get some miles in and look to finish toward the end. It's clearly not going to prep him stylistically, but maybe in terms of getting a feel for himself at 175.

Look at it this way, was there anyone better that Kovalev could have faced to prepare him for Ward? I think Chilemba was a really good pick to get him ready, a guy with a tricky defensive style.

The cabbie that ward is facing is not going to prepare him at all. Thats the only thing that ward hasnt fought at a high level in a long time. I hope he wins though.

Kovalev on Ward not being a crusher.... doesnt matter, all he needs is to outbox you over 12. If Chilemba and ancient hopkins go 12, we can well expect ward to not get stopped. Can kovelev outbox or outwork ward over 12? hes got his work cut out for him, ward is a very good fighter.

Kovalev is always humble and real (like GGG, Lomachenko, Beterbiev, Povetkin...).

A real champ like only eastern europe can produce !

No parade, "blasé" eye or "tough" mouth posture like some bums...

Kovalev know Ward's a tough fight and vice versa

Ward and Kovalev both know they have a tough fight in front of them. However Ward has been here before with Kessler and Froch. Can we really say Kovalev is vastly better than those two guys who Ward dominated. Not really sure we can but those were still tough fights for Ward.
