  • Comments Thread For: Kovalev Explains Why Andre Ward, Isaac Chilemba Are Similar

World champion Sergey Kovalev explained why he believes Andre Ward and Isaac Chilemba are similar in style. What was meant to be a glorious homecoming as Kovalev fought on Russian soil for the first time since 2011 turned into an awkward night as he defended his WBA 'super', IBF and WBO light-heavyweight titles.

Theyre both similar because neither of them would ever face GGG and neither of them can handle The Krusher!

Anyone who thinks Ward is similar to chilemba is delusional.

It's like saying Duran for is nothing less than just a rudimentary and aborted version of Manny.

Glad he clarified and that he realizes Ward is a whole different ball game.

Wards promoter needs to get to work this article gave us an insight of kovolovs mentality and its not looking good. Infact my entire opinion about the outcome has changed I no longer have belief in the man who second guesses him self.

I get that Chilemba gave him work in areas that he needs to focus on. In that sense, it may have helped. But, Chilemba is soooo loose and lax whereas Ward is tight in all aspects; guard, timing, countering, etc. Ward isn't going to continually back himself against the ropes or lean back as a means of defense. He's a game of wack-a-mole that hits back. He's going to stand right in front of you, slip, counter, and then either be gone or right in your face grinding it out. Not tapping you with a jab then inching back. Ward and Chilemba are so different in those aspects.

The clarification makes sense. Hopefully he learned a lot from the Chilemba fight, & goes into training camp trying to fix some of those deficiencies. Ward isn't going to go easy on him.

I don't think anyone realized Kovalev is paying Ward a compliment. He's basically saying that Chilemba gave him problems, and he expects Ward to give him more of the same problems.
