What I took out of last nights fight was is was Kovalevs way of getting some rounds in. It also looked to me as though Kov was forcing and trying to get Chilemba to work so in turn that it would make Kovakev work more. I firmly believe last nights fight was a competitive fight but I also know it was Kovalev who forced it to make it competitive just so he could get rounds in and get work.
Ward-Kovalev is IMO a 50-50 fight. And nothing last night changed my opinion. If Ward is going to win he is going to have to be ready for the pressure Kovalev brings, he'll have to be very active with his feet and jab. He'll have to get in and get out. It's a winnable fight for Ward but it won be easy. He can't get lazy in here or expose himself to Kov otherwise it could be bad news for him.
As for Kovalev he will have to be himself but more intense with more stamina and bring that constant pressure and keep punching. If Kovalev can keep that constant active pressure on Ward with consistent punching and hit Ward everywhere(head, body, shoulders, arms) he could wear Ward down. IMO Kovalev has underrated skills but with Ward he's going to have to try and break ward down with his pressure while raining down on him with his heavy shots.
It's not going to be an easy fight for either man and the one who wins is the one who comes with best stamia. IMO it's s 50-50 fight, so having ultimate stamia is key.Comment

IMO, the Chilemba fight showed that a orthodox fighter with a dominant lead left hand (like a Cotto or De La Hoya) would give Kov problems. Thought Kov got frustrated by the jab throwing off his rhythm and the threat of 'check left
hooks' . Also, Chilemba's ability to get out of range with his feet also flummoxed Kov.
Ward, if he can handle the power, should be able to exploit both.Comment

Kovalev is a little upright and square...gets a little off balance on the attack, a little open
we'll see
if you find a link post it please...wanna analyze and check it outComment

Kov didn’t look like the indestructible animal he’s gotten the reputation to be recently , but he got the job done. People may have underestimated Chilemba and thought he would be easy work but fair play to him, he put in a good performance tonight and should be proud of that performance against the king of the division. I had it a little closer than some of the cards, 118-109 wasn’t a fair reflection in my opinion.
Interesting fight, there’s a million different ways you could analyse this, what ifs and what would Ward have done etc etc. But we really won’t know until the big night, I don’t think I’m any more knowledgeable about how the Ward fight will go, it’s still up in the air to me because I think a different Kovalev will show up for Ward.
MAYBE, Kovalev deliberately phoned it in to lull Ward into a false sense of security. Then on fight night he turns on the jets. You never know with that cat!
Nice gif anyway:
