  • Kovalev V Andre Ward is NO WHERE NEAR a 50 50 fight.

Lets take away who you think is better for a second. Some may think Ward more skilful, some may think kovelev power is to much, lets forget all of that and admit that both are elite fighters.

So once you remove they are elite fighters, i cannot see for the life of me how Andre ward beats Kovalev. He's simply not faced tough enough opposition at supper middle/catch weights since Carl Froch. Over weight Super middles, Over weight c level catch weights, this is not preparation for Adonis Stevenson let alone Sergey Kovavlev.

I played Tennis at a high level when younger and i can tell you, even if you are way more talented than your opponent, if they are fairly gifted, but are training with much better guys than you, who push him much harder than you are being pushed then chances are you will lose on simply not being prepared.

Sergey has faced ismael Silakh, Cleverly, Hopkins, Pascal twice, Chilemba, with a few okayish B level opponents thrown in the mix.

Ward has faced NOT only less opponents in the last three years here's who he has faced, Edwin rodriguez(who missed the weight), paul Smith(missed the weight and is a C level fighter being generous),Sullivan barrea(getting better tbf) and now Alexander Brand.

Taking talent aside how on earth is Ward even slightly prepared for Kovalev?

    Discuss.

The tennis wiz has spoken. No need to watch this one I guess.

The great thing about this discussion is that the fight is actually happening so it doesn't matter how we feel. Somebody is gonna lose and somebody is gonna win. Unless its a draw.

Nazzim Richardson said it best: Training camps are meant to prepare you for the fighter you are facing. If you're not ready for the next best man at this level then you shouldn't be on this level.

Ward has fought good fighters before, he didn't all of a sudden forget how to fight them. Inactivity has been his problem, he hasn't forgotten how to box he just needs to stay sharp

i agree its great, biggest fight of the year imo. But so it makes it fun who we speculate whos going to win?

Both are elite, very skilled guys, so im looking at every detail when betting on a fight, and preperation is a massive factor for me. But Ward could prove me wrong, hes not lost since he was 12?

I was a bit snarky because you started out at '10' with a statement like "NO WHERE NEAR a 50 50 fight". Hard to go anywhere from there. Sorry for being a **** about it but it's just hard to take you seriously when you say it's not 50/50, and that the reason is that Kovalev is so far ahead. I mean, are we really ignoring all the questions surrounding Kovalev right now? He showed some weakness in areas where Ward happens to be really strong. I think it's still a close fight, anyone's fight, but if the odds shifted, it's going to be toward Ward for the aforementioned reasons.

I'm favoring Ward but I was favoring him before today and today didn't make me any more confident Ward would win. I think this fight makes Kovalev even more focused for Ward. I don't see Kovalev being aggressive against Ward if Ward has his timing back, which I think he will. I think people have gotten so used to these KO's that's why they overreacted today. I don't know if it's peoples personal hate for Ward that has them thinking Kovalev will walk thru him or if they think Ward has really slipped that far. I see it going like a Mayweather fight. Kovalev is tentative and Ward fights his fight and cruises to an easy UD or late stoppage. I'm just happy the fight is made and it'll happen.

Iagree, but then could you not Argue that the fact that Kovalev struggled with Chilemba in parts proves my points in terms of preparation. Kovalevs excellent team will see that and work on that, especially knowing they are fighting Ward.

Perhaps Ward is Sparring with Cruiser weights in prep and will prove me wrong, but its Harder enough to prep for someone like Kovalev as it is, but to not even face decent super middle weight competition in the last 3 years is surely beyond the pale?
