Comments Thread For: Chilemba: I'll Upset Sergey Kovalev, The Pressure is On Him!

Isaac Chilemba clearly understands his presumed role in his fight against Sergey Kovalev. Though a legitimate light heavyweight contender, the 29-year-old Chilemba is supposed to help keep Kovalev sharp on the Russian knockout artist's way to a November 19 showdown with Andre Ward. The South African is a 16-1 underdog, has just 10 knockouts in 29 professional fights (24-3-2) and is about to challenge a dangerous foe who has knocked out 87 percent of his pro opponents.

Chilemba can have all the confidence in the world but if he doesn't 'sit down' on his punches and throw then with bad intentions, Kovalev will have his way.

I've seen Chilemba a bunch of times and he's a decent all around skilled fighter but he can't punch for ****. Or he's unwilling to punch hard.

I don't know how he can have success if he doesn't throw hard sharp crisp shots with some power on 'em

Kovie the commie crude clumsy caveman needs a tough test

Kovalev is a very awkward clumsy caveman crude boxer who pounds the hell out of opponents but has yet to face a slick talented fighter in his prime who can make the Kov looks as clumsy and crude as Kovie actually really is. Now GGG and Lomo are much better fighters than the crude caveman commie
          Kov a Lead feet.

its better than seeing someone come to the ring like their on death row, like Spinks vs Tyson

confidence goes a long way....you're loose, and don't overthink things.

Of course Kovalev should win, but I'd rather he fight someone coming to win, instead of a sacrificial lamb

Yea he seems like a good fighter...watched his fights with bellew.....He definitely needs to sit on his shots more and stand his ground a little

He is a good fighter for prep against ward...he is a pure boxer, decent speed but ward is slicker and better inside though

power is a little overrated...accuracy is where its @..sometimes just picking up points and not getting hit as much gets the job done.....no fighter who fights at the highest level is going to ko everyone. Otherwise guys like willie pep, miguel canto, or whitaker wouldnt have been the best of their eras.

Ask Hopkins what he thinks of Kovalev. He said he is very skilled.

He's a lot more than just a puncher.

I guess my point was that Chilemba has to put some sting on his punches and do some damage. He's not gonna be able pitty-pat his way to a points victory; Kovalev is just too strong and his offensive is too pressing. Chilemba will have to have some accuracy and throw his punches with authority if he wants Sergey to respect him.
