Ruslan only knew how to fight one way. According to his manager he was smart with his money... aka his manager was smart with his cut of Ruslan's money.

Don't think it's a good idea to have a long layoff. He should fight lower tier guys and slowly work his way up.Comment

that's the rout they head with a young fighter with whom they see some upside. those fights can actually lose money, and are an investment. they probably don't see anything left to invest in. they know these guys well. when a fighter's had enough they are the first to know outside of his family. ruslan is probably starting to feel the effects of his career. he took bombs in victory and defeat. he was a sparring partner for pacquiao in his prime because of how tough and durable he was. the guy probably has very little left.
it's either become a stepping stone or retire. i'm happy for him if he's doing well financially and decides to hang them up. kid went from an ESPN fighter to having a fight or two every year on HBO and showtime. he probably learned a few things about managing his money when he was earning 10K on espn to go 12 hard rounds.Comment

Ruslan definitely needs some time off, then he should comeback at 147 if he feels better. He should fight a couple of winnable fights and rethink his desire. i doubt he could ever win a title at 147 but he could be a solid test for some hypejobs.Comment

It's time to quit. His career has been about as long as his style of fighting will allow. People who love blood and guts, no defense, fighters never share in the pain and anguish that inevitably derives from the kind of pounding they take in order to entertain. Media people like Jim Lampley glorify this 'fan friendly' style, mostly to detract from the more technical boxers who he distains. In truth lovers of the sport of boxing appreciate the skill and strategy involved.
For sure boxing is a violent sport as is football; but to incite fighters like Provo to sacrifice their lives to appease those who get off seeing pain inflicted is not what boxing is or ever was. Apart from having short careers and traumatic injuries these defenseless fighters tend to fail in terms of accolades and earnings. Hopefully Provo has earned enough to make a better life for his family without distroying his capacity to enjoy them.Comment
