Comments Thread For: Chilemba Warns Kovalev: I'm No Stepping Stone To Ward Fight!

Isaac 'Golden Boy' Chilemba (24-3-2, 10KOs) is very motivated to disrupt the lucrative plans of Sergey "Krusher" Kovalev. Chilemba will challenge Kovalev for his WBA Super, IBF and WBO light heavyweight belts on July 11th in Russia. HBO will televise the fight as part of a special Monday broadcast.

Heh, I think it's Chilemba that's gonna be in for a shock. I have not seen Kovalev take anyone lightly in the last few years.

In any case, it should be an interesting fight. Chilemba is pretty good actually.

Came across this video, figured I'd link it.

It's obvious why Kovalev picked him up.

Chilemba is the perfect stay-busy: a top 15 opponent who can't punch, but has enough skill/experience to provide some challenge and he's never been stopped.

Chilemba is good. He's a tough, tricky mfer - both his 'losses' were razor thin could easily have been draws and I'd argue that Bellew I shudda gone his way. Myself I'd have him within the LHW top 10 and there's no-one outside of Kovalev and maybe Ward that I'd confidently predict beating him.. If Kovalev was looking for a good opponent to prepare himself for Ward he kinda lucked out, but Chilemba is absolutely right that Sergei shouldn't be looking past him and I doubt he is.

Chilemba is very crafty, he's never decisively lost a fight.

Yes, if Kovalev stops Chilemba it is another prove for his punching-power and skill too. A crude puncher would look like **** against Chilemba. I think Chilemba is a verry good tune-up before fighting Ward.

Kovalev has gotta think down the road anyway... that's why he chose this guy. Slick, defensive fighter who is resilient. What better prep for Ward?
