  • Saunders wants $2mill for Canelo undercard

You know that's coming out of Canelo's draw.

Billy Joe Saunders has informed WBN of his purse demands for a possible WBO middleweight title defence on the Canelo Alvarez v Liam Smith undercard this autumn.

“It looks like I’ll be defending my title on the Canelo v Smith undercard in Las Vegas,” Saunders exclusively told World Boxing News.

“There’s just a few things to sort out, like my visa for one, but it’s very close. I just have to get my two million dollars and then I’ll be fighting on the undercard.”

Saunders is due a voluntary by the World Boxing Organisation after defeating Andy Lee to claim the belt - which means anyone in the top fifteen of the WBO rankings can be his opponent on September 17.

The likes of Ryota Murata, David Lemieux, Hassan N’Dam, Curtis Stevens, Tureano Johnson and stablemate Tommy Langford could come into play for what will be Saunders’ US debut once officially finalized.

Saunders joins a mandatory WBA heavyweight battle between interim champion Luis Ortiz and Russian Alexander Ustinov on the high-profile event - with plenty more fights to be added in the next few weeks.

My money is Curtis Stevens gets the fight. Big name, big punch, but low volume & easy to outbox.

good move, whoever is asked to take part of that ppv should ask for a lot of money, as it will probably be the last one for canelo until he is forced to fight ggg

It would be nice if we got Lemieux/Saunders instead.

2M is probably what Liam is making.

Yeah it would, but that's too big of a fight to be on an undercard. That could be in Montreal or the UK and make its own money. Stevens or Johnson on the other hand would need some help.

After this fight, I think he'll have to make the WBO mando next (Khurtsidze/Langford). Be nice if we had Lemieux/Khurtsidze instead, I see David is now rated #4 in the WBO.

Basically they're taking what Khan made and splitting it in half for those two?

Maybe but I don't think this is going to sell as good as khan because I don't think Liam is as big as Khan but I could be wrong maybe there's alot of UK money coming in?

too much for an undercard fight, not like the ppv will be a big event where everyone can ask for big bucks... unless oscar can get pre-agreement for canelo-saunders either in december or may... saunders-lemule sounds good anyways...

Any rumors or opinions on who BJS will be fighting?

I'd love to see Lemieux as others mentioned, but Stevens sounds about right.
