it works both ways...unless you think chilemba who has drew or lost to every world class guy he fought is good preparation for a fighter like ward

    you dudes are slow

neither guy has an opponent to prepare them for each other
I agree. Furthermore, I doubt most seriously care who Ward fights before facing Kov. Ward detractors just want something to troll about...

VIRGIL HUNTER EXPLAINS SELECTION OF ALEXANDER BRAND AS ANDRE WARD'S NEXT OPPONENT:

"We're in the same dilemma that supposedly Golovkin's in and supposedly Kovalev's in. Skoglund, who is number 5 or number 6, something like that, they agreed to the terms, but then when we told them that VADA was involved, they backed out of the fight. So what is that saying? They had agreed to all the terms and then backed out of the fight. Cleverly and everybody else was pricing themselves out. There was nobody left. We had to get somebody. They kept putting pressure on us for a deadline and this and that; that wasn't our first choice. We couldn't get an opponent last time, but we went to Barrera. He was the only one. Look, the time before last, when we had a layoff, we come out of the garage at 168 and we fought number one, Edwin Rodriguez. Next time, as a light heavyweight, we come out of the garage and we fight number one, Barrera. So what are they saying?

I don't know why people would say anything because the ones who they say have a hard time getting an opponent, we're willing to fight them. Kovalev got a fight with Chilemba because they're promoted by the same company, but he didn't have nobody to fight. This kid Joe Smith, who knocked out Fonfara, he would've been a good fight, but we wouldn't have been able to get him because of Joe DeGuardia's lawsuit against Roc Nation. So who are we going to fight? Alexander Brand is way more formidable than Dominic Wade. We were willing to fight the other guy [Golovkin] when he didn't have nobody to fight, but they didn't wanna fight."

The haters are going to say that this is made up or start plucking holes into it.

Idk how Barrera is getting lumped in with Smith & Brand, who I agree are subpar opponents for a top 3 guy in his division & P4P guy to be fighting. Barrera was a top ten LHW for Ward's 175 debut.

Great explanation, just wish Hunter hadn't mentioned GGG.

We know Adonis won't fight anyone with a pulse, Skoglund apparently turned the fight down when drug testing was brought up, Cleverly said no, Jean Pascal is coming off two beatings by the hands of Kovalev, Fonfara just fought, Yunieski is coming off a loss to Shabransky.

If Ward doesn't want to give up any of his guarantee I have no problem with that, he's earned what he is getting. But if money is indeed the problem then I don't want to hear his whining. Fighters also think they are gonna get crazy paid when they fight him which isn't the case. Heck GGG is a bigger draw and he isn't even offering opponents big bucks
I've been told Shabransky would happily have done it for $400K (or less provided the split was fair) - Barrera reportedly got $450K. I don't know what 'crazy pay' is, but $400K doesn't seem way off the mark to me. For reference La Bomba was scheduled to get $500K until Haymon upbid HBO to $1mil.

Not according to the Ring or Tbrb. Boxrec had him like 25, ten spots below Wades ranking.
