The fact that the fight sold well is a big deal because neither Thurman nor Porter are big draws. Also, if the conditions were the same as one year ago and Mayweather, Pacquaio and Maidana were still active, Porter and Thurman would be considered the 9th and 10th best fighters in the division. So, a successful fight between two guys who aren't superstars is a big deal.

It is about damn time that these second-tier fighters who talk lots of sh.t and want to take over the throne left behind by Mayweather and Pacquaio started fighting each other. Mayweather and Pacquaio fought numerous quality opponents in and around the welterweight division in order to establish their legacy.

The rest of these clowns (Garcia, Thurman, Brook, and Khan) have fought nothing but journeymen while trying to convince boxing fans they were the best and deserved fights against Mayweather.

Thurman's next three fights should be against Garcia, the Brook/Vargas winner and Spence Jr. Instead, they will probably be fights against everybody's favorite punching bag, Chris Algieri, and two European journeymen.

Yeah, funny how actually making a good fight between two prime fighters interested boxing fans. Maybe this idea can catch on and boxing can actually look like a real sport again.
