Because he wasn't big or strong enough to do it.

I appreciated neither guy clinching, it made for a fun intriguing fight and Thurman obviously has enough faith in his inside abilities and his chin.

Actually when you turtle up and compress energy you're storing it and it doesn't wear out when transferring it like a clinch. For fighters it's like an inverse of kinetic energy. It's very hard to turtle up and take damage in protecting the body and head. The strategy is to wear your opponent out and then burst. Alvarez does this well. Floyd was a master at rope a dope because he knew where shots would come and then pick spots on the opponent where ideally when you're pressured on the ropes from a barrage ideally you're losing points if you don't hit back.

Thurman is learning at the championship level. Just like anybody been in a mad fight you're better prepared the second time around. As long as a fighter stays focus and disciplined with every move until the end of their careers they're masters. No need to get hurt, sloppy, or sleep on the canvas just to please the crowds. Hit and don't get hit.

                1. He probably hasn't been taught to.

                2. He seemed confident enough that he could hold his own inside. He seemed to want to prove a point after all the ridiculous criticism thrown his way. And he did well enough against Porter to pull the fight out. He wasn't getting dominated inside. He had some success landing his own big shots.

I'm glad he didn't. He went to war without resorting to cheap, spoiling tactics, and won the fight. I only think higher of him for it.

Porter would of bullied him in the clinch. Brook had success with it because he's a big, strong welterweight.

Porter works well in the clinch...he never stops working, he'll mug you..wouldnt have been a good idea, plus they'd most likely warned him and took points.

From his point of view it was better to earn Porters respect by fighting him head on and countering when he worked inside and punched with him when he got close

                    It worked.

He never does he doesn't know how to. When he's against the ropes he really needs to instead of just blocking
