Thurman vs Porter : A breathe of fresh air

Well all I have to say while and after i was watching Thurman-Porter was this is just a breathe of fresh air for boxing. In this day and age and era of boxing this fight was a rare thing.

You had two absolutely prime fighters who are some of the best boxing has to offer. Two absolutely in shape fighters who were ready to rock. Two fighters who had "let's win" in their eyes and two fighters that would do everything they could to come out on top.

Result is who ever watched last night just witnessed the fight of the year and one of the best welterweight championship fights ever. Both Thurman and Porter left everything in the ring and gave fight fans the kind of fight at this level something that will have people talking about for a long time.

For a true fan of boxing who had watched boxing for years and years, this was a breathe of fresh air. Forget all the PBC, Arum, golden boy, Mayweather-pacquiao stuff that fans battle over that has plagued boxing in this era. This fight had me smile all the way through and has made my Sunday a good one.

Let this fight be a reminder to all who control boxing and all boxers, that when you put two prime fighters in the ring together who only want to win and who truly dedicate themselves to boxing and their training that only good will come out for all, no matter who wins and loses.

Even though there was a winner and a loser last night, in my eyes nobody lost and both fighters stock just went way up.

Good fight, one that Porter deserved to win.

Regardless of who won and lost both fighters deserve massive credit. I don't think any less of Porter. And if they would have gave the fight to Porter I wouldn't think any less of Thurman.

For me both fighters came out on top. It was a truly close fight. I had Thurman up a round going into the 12th. And that 12th was a close round? So for me a close fight it was but nevertheless a modern day classic.

Stay tuned because Crawford/Postol is next and hopefully so is Kovalev/Ward. The best should always fight the best.

Those are two fights I look forward to and if they come close to matching the fight last night, things could possibly start to turn around for boxing as long as those in charge and boxers aren't afraid to fight each other.

Top guys should always be fighting top guys.
