a boxer is someone who usually operates on the outside, particularly using the jab as their main weapon while countering their opponent.
That said you can go forward in a fight and still outbox someone
I think Chad Dawson was a good example, did his work on the outside behind a solid jab and had decent counterpunching skills. He could also go on the frontfoot if he needed to.
Outside fighters with good jabs get labeled boxers like Brook Crawford Postol Kovalev Ward etc but generally outfighters can be pot shotters counter punchers combination punchers

A boxer is a guy who has the skills to fight in the outside inside or what ever it takes to make their opponent look bad just look at Nicclino Locche he made people miss in the inside off the ropes or in the outside without holding or elbowing which is an art

I'd assume the idea of the "boxer" looking to score points and win rounds, compared to the "fighter" who is trying to hurt his opponent.
Fighters who operate at range are stereotyped as just trying to score points and win decisions, so they are "boxers."

It's weird to me. What do you call Pernell Whitaker who liked to operate inside?
Or even an Andre Ward. They're referred to as boxers but work inside a lot.

I was thinking outfighters are the boxers because of the definition of boxing.
Hit & not get hit.
Shorter distance fighters spend more time in ranges where lotta punishment is delivered.
