    what do y'all think about clinching?

    i haven't seen a thread about this, and i'm curious about everyone else's views. i bring it up because everyone's always knocking it, which is deserved in cases like ruiz. but i agree 100% with what's-his-name from hbo. not lederman but the soft spoken one with white hair. it's not bad when it's done STRATEGICALLY. clinching is part of german boxing. wladimir is great at it, henry maske was excellent at it. i hate it when it's done to get a rest, but also when it's repetative and drawn-out. the german boxing style uses clinching to wear down the opponent, it's totally calculated and not drawn-out. wlad against peter was a great showing of how it is used methodically. i know everyone likes the toe to toe punches only balls to the wall fighting, but i'm from germany and although i don't know everything about everything, i'm an absolutely enormous fan of boxing. and i like boxers. ko's are nice, but i like the strategy involved. clinching is okay when you use it right. am i alone on this?

    Hey welcome to the forums.

    I agree with you, the **** Ruiz does and the **** rahemm did to popo I hate. What Wlad did against Peter I don't mind b/c he at least punches and throws some punches, ruiz and Raheem seemed to just hold on for dear life.

      Clinching is a weapon, as any other in boxing. Many guys get clinched, but for some reason do not fight their way out of it.

          Clinching is the only way that HW's can preserve their energy and recover a little bit after they throw a combo. I have no problem with it, unless it becomes like John Ruiz clinching.

              Wlad dont need to clicnh. He's a big guy that always have the size advantage. In his part, that is cheap tactic and deserve no respect.

                Clinching is part and parcel of the sport.It's okay within reason every now and again as part of the natural rhythm of the sport.

                  There is nothing wrong with the way Wlad does it...Emanuel has taught him to do it right, it enables his control over the fighter from fighting on the inside against him, plus, gives him a quick breather.
                  I am not a huge fan of it, but understand it is a part of boxing.
                  If you want to see some crazy holding, but kind of funny, look at some Jack Johnson fights where he uses it to embarrass his opponent.

                  Ruiz = terrible

                  Ricky Hatton = I wouldn't trust him inside a locker room
