GGG is a bigger star than Wilder and Povetkin isn't as known in the states as Povetkin. So with GGG being a bigger star he and his team should be able to come up with $6 mil and make a profit.

And you as a former promoter should know you don't make profits on every fight. Fights are an investment. You lose money on some fights in order to build a fighter. Do you consider yourself an irrational player? DiBella says he loses money on his Broadway Boxing Series and that has nothing to do with Haymon.
yes, of course you lose money on some fights during the developmental stage of a fighters career. But we're talking 10, maybe 20 grand on a specific fight here or there, if it is leading somewhere. NOBODY (well at least nobody who uses their own money) would knowingly lose hundreds of thousands or even millions on a fight, no matter what. GGG-Jacobs is not a "developmental" fight, it is a top level fight between 2 top-5 champions.....

I'm not saying GGG-Jacobs will lose money. I'm saying i think the mone is there to make the fight next year. Jacobs is headed in the right direction as far as exposure with his new deal in Brooklyn and it looks like he's going to be based there. This fight needs to marinate. The canelo fight is well done beef. I was referring to Jacobs-Quillin. I posted this other thread to put some perspective on the whole situation. Let me know what you think

this is a point in which we disagree. Sure, EVERY fight can benefit from a little more time to build it up, but the bottom line is that a fight like GGG-Jacobs is only going to be so big, no matter what. Its not a fight that benefits from marinating, because the kind of fights Jacobs would need to take in the meantime in order to raise his profile are fights he could realistically lose, thus firing a torpedo into the whole plan. And yes, I know any fighter could lose any fight at any point, thats not what Im saying. Im saying as it pertains to "risk management", there are not many top level fights that Jacobs would be a heavy favorite in. I could see him losing to Lemieux, Saunders, Eubank, or several other guys, so whats the point in marinating it? And whats with the ridiculous purse requests? Does he think he deserves $3 or $4 million to fight the champion in his division? Thats more money than most Floyd or Pac opponents make. Its absurd

We as fans need to stop acting like accountants. Yes, its helpful to have enough of an understanding of boxing economics to comprehend why this fight or that fight cant get made, but its really getting crazy with all the justifying of clear ducking. Basically Jacobs would want more money than Thurman and Porter got combined, even though he sells fewer tickets, and does lower ratings. And we as fans should not be defending that......

And whats REALLY funny is that most of the people who are defending Jacobs and saying he "deserves" this or that (even though he is clearly the "b"side) are the exact same people who said GGG should accept a 90-10 split at 155 to fight canelo lol
