It's not gonna surpass Floyd vs. Cotto unless Kovalev vs. Ward does over a million

I guess what you're trying to say is that mayweather made a fortune out of ppv using his skills in cherry picking, while maintaining the illusion that he would eventually fight Pacquiao.

He also managed to alienate boxing fans that paid to see him (even though they paid to see him lose) because they eventually realized he would never fight a threat.

Nowadays Canelo(the face of boxing) cant even reach 1 mil ppvs with a draw like Cotto. He couldnt get 300,000 fighting smith. Floyd did more than that with bums like baldomir when he wasnt the face of boxing. When he was the face of boxing he made 1 mil or more with bums like ortiz, and guerrero.

Things will only get worse because now all boxers want to be overpaid for bums. That means competitive matches dont get made. You want to compare floyd/cotto to hbo ppv 2016 and thats sad. Even sadder is whats happening on pbc. They had no ppvs, none.

With all that talent they have no ppv superstars. You could say that they have no ppv superstars because they're making the money in commercials, but that isnt the case either. Ask berto, charlo brothers, lara, thurman, anthony dirrell, andre dirrell, danny garcia, mickey garcia, daniel jacobs, lamont peterson, peter quillin, gary russell jr, adonis stevenson, and austin trout when their second match of 2016 will occur? Some havent fought since 2015.

Here's floyds ppv history if you need a reminder.

Before the de la hoya fight mayweathers biggest ppv was short of 400,000. He beats de la hoya and becomes the face of the sport. He then fights hatton, a big name at the time. Hatton brought money, and army of fans that flew to see the fight. The fight however did not reach the million mark. All though Ricky was impressive with the amount of uk ppv he brought.

Floyd then retired claiming there was nothing left to do, that he achieved what he had to achieve, that once he say "im through" hes through, and all that trash.

Pac moves up and trashes floyds previous two opponents while making nice money.

So then Haymon(it had to be him because floyd can barely read let alone form a plan) told him "Kid im gonna match you up with a series of fighters that stand no chance, while pretending we want this filipino. Then when he shows weakness we'll fight him. Think what leonard did to hagler times ten".

                    So floyd fought:

Marquez-(Small Draw) Must fight someone that makes me look better than Pac. Lets pick a fighter coming up 2 division, that also doesnt know what to do when he sees jab and movement. You know, just in case.

Mosley-(Small Draw) Fans noticed in marquez fight that i now dope. Will pick fighter that depends on PED's. Lets pay usada from now on so my opponent cant dope, but i can and so it looks like im cleaning the sport. You know, just in case.

Ortiz-(Small draw) Fans believe im fighting the best. Lets fight someone that struggled with berto and got stopped by maidana. You know, just in case.

Cotto- (Draw) Needed a better dancing partner. Fans are starting to think threats are avoided. Lets pick someone that beat mosley but was also the victim of two horrific tko beatings. You know, just in case.

Guerrero-(Small draw) Pacquiao, and bradley are good, skilled fighters. Guerrero beat berto. Lets pick Guerrero. You know, just in case.

Canelo-(Big draw) Pac losing started to affect business. Cant fight 3 small draws and get over 1 mil. Starting to miss the old days where fans were more gullible. Trout gave him a tough bout so it cant be that bad. Lets drain him. You know, just in case.

Maidana 1- Just fought a draw so its time to go back to no hopers. This guy is limited. Alexander didnt lose a round, i can do this. Lets forbid his choice of gloves. You know, just in case.

Maidana 2- Haymon be getting heat.I didnt make at least 1 mil in the last match, I also took a beating last time. If i dont reach 1 mil I will have to fight the filipino. Get me a ref that lets me clinch all i want. You know, just in case.

Pac- I didnt get 1 mil. Its ok though, JMM did him in. Six years have passed, and his style ages way quicker than mine. Usada got my back. Lets hire Memo and Ariza to get me even better PED's. You know, just in case.

Berto- Damn, this be the end. Fans seem to realize i dont like threats. Since i became the face of boxing i ducked: prime pacquiao, prime cotto, Margarito, Williams, Bradley, Lara, Porter, Thurman, Brook. Thats just 147, and 154. This ppv did 400,000 which is what i used to make before Oscar. The plan was good al, we damaged boxing but we aint going home broke.

Prove that Floyd ruined boxing by delaying the Pac Fight for 6 years and then putting up the worst shitshow you can imagine killing most, if not all PPV future fights. You also saw that in his terrible numbers against Berto, the biggest money maker in the sport in his farewell fight did **** numbers, now you saw how many people really wanted to see Floyd.. People tuned in because they wanted Floyd to get beat up.

Anyway, PPV is too expensive, cut it down to $25-30 like in the UK and make the fights the fans want to see, over and over again, not once every couple years.
