The lineal title is basically the Ring title isn't it?

Oscar owns the Ring and Canelo is his golden goose. (fans need to wake up and boycot his next fight, stream it instead to send a message)

Everyone working for Golden Boy/The Ring will blatantly defend and come up with intelligent excuses why Canelo will keep the lineal MW title.

It was a confusing time for sure but prior to that, Jones had three of the four belts while Michalzewski was lineal champ (lost to Gonzalez who lost to Zsolt). But it was all cleared up when the #1 vs #2 happened after the lineage was broken so the current lineal champion is still Stevenson which he got from beating Dawson.
Why was the LHW lineage broken? Erdei only had one fight at CW, where he weighed 178lbs, then returned to LHW. The WBO stripped him b/c they have a silly policy that if you hold a title in a different division you have 1-2 weeks to drop one of the titles or they'll strip you (how Pirog picked up Martinez's belt).

I love the idea of a lineal title, you can't argue with the concept - beat the man on top to be the man on top. But in reality it's bogus.

In February of 2004 you couldn't convince me that Erdei was the top LHW champ while RJJ was still there and undefeated. To me, there's only one meaningful champ at top.

Say Liam Smith beats Canelo then agrees to rematch at 155lbs and Eubank beats Golovkin. Who do you call the champion at MW? The guy who holds the 3 belts at 160 or the guy who never fought there and has no actual belts there?

If Canelo continue fighting in 154 after his smith fight, then 160 lineal title will be vacant. If he returns fighting in 155 (still MW limit) after the the smith fight, then the lineal title will remain from him.

Yes, the "lineal title" is now "vacant"; with the direct lineage now broken, the "title" will stay "vacant" until the lineage can be re-established, ie Golovkin (WBC/WBA/IBF 160 titles) fighting Billy Joe Saunders (WBO 160 title) to return the single champion.

Not quite. The scene, tbrb, Cbz all recognize lineal champs. When the Ring stripped Aduckis, the other guys didn't follow suit. Either way the system is broken if a guy hasn't fought above 155, vacates to avoid his mando, the consensus #1 contender, and keeps his lineage. Obviously such rankings are less than worthless

The Transnational Boxing Rankings Board determines lineal champions. The RING is a trash publication ran by a transsexual f*ggot.

I've always been under the impression there are two ways a lineage is broken - fighter retires or leaves the division. I remember the discussions about Erdei and people saying the lineage was broken when he went to cruiserweight.

Apparently there are different schools of thought here. For example get with Canelo, is the lineage now broken or not.

Well, Erdei and Canelo are the same case. Erdei took one fight at CW for a title. Now Canelo is taking atleast one fight at JMW for a title. Same thing.

As far as lineal titles go, I don't see how they can justify stripping Erdei of his lineal title. If Golovkin becomes the lineal champ, then next year goes and fight Rameriz for his title, they don't strip him of his lineal MW status.
In the past lineal champs like Ray Robinson, Harry Greb, and Mickey Walker would jump up and down divisions. Further more who's 'they'? I could see the Ring stripping Erdei, and fans and media confusing the Ring title and the lineal title. I'll have to get Rold and Fischer's opinions on this and hold those ******s accountable if so.
