Comments Thread For: Felix Verdejo Feels Ready For Big Things: I Regained My Focus!

Last Saturday night, Felix Verdejo celebrated Puerto Rico Day a few hours early with a brutal beating of Juan Jose Martinez. The 23-year-old Verdejo came off two lackluster victories, albeit unanimous decisions. He admitted heading into the bout he needs to impress at the Garden to set up some lucrative lightweight fights. Did he ever, stopping Martinez 2:40 into the fifth round.

Verdejo is at the vanguard of the next wave of Puerto Rican fighters if you ask me.

I hope boxing fans are not dumb enough to form a Verdejo nutwagon. I know you want another Trinidad or even a Cotto but this kid is not it. He looks the part but the skills, talent, IQ is not there. He is a B level fighter at best.

It is time for Verdejo to step up. Especially if HBO is going to invest money on him, might as well use that money for good match-ups. Enough with the showcases for Felix.
I say they should target an eliminator then get Flanagan.
Verdejo has the physical tools: he's fast, athletic (well every athlete is athletic to a certain degree, but Verdejo is really athletic imo), light on his feet (difference between being fast/quick on your feet and having intelligent footwork), tall, rangy, etc.
He just has to put everything together and stepping up may let him do just that. He won't do it facing guys like Martinez.
It's time to take a chance.

This kid not really should let him get 10 more fights before going after a belt , his only 23 no need to rust to a title

Too many HBO fights, fighting nobodies for verdejo. There is a reason Im not Paying for HBO subscription, after Vargas vs Salido and Lomachenko vs Martinez, I canceled it.
