tyson's mixture of speed and power was what made him seem so great. his power was good, but i don't really think he had one punch knockout power. he did have really good power though.
Was tysons power overrated ?.

I don't think he punches harder than Foreman, but Marciano I could see...Marciano's power if anything seems to be overrated...maybe not for his height and weight, but if you put him in the same class as heavyweights like Foreman, Shavers, etc., he is overrated.
Tyson also had trouble knocking guys out in certain fights because they covered up to much, so to prevent any openings: fighters get knocked out when you have an opening to hit.
Tyson's power came from a combination of Speed, strength, technique, accuracy, and timing.
Foreman on the other hand didn't need much of what Tyson had, just his sheer brute strength/power, worked for him.Comment

I think it is the reverse: his power is overrated based on his nuthugging fans who grew up playing Mike Tyson's Punchout...they remember getting knocked out so many times fighting "Iron" Mike, that or the newbies who just saw clips of his fights...the guy was one of the hardest hitters, no doubt, but not on the level of a Foreman, at least in my opinion.
For his skill, this has become underrated: the guy was able to fight in a heavyweight body like he was a middleweight...he threw tons of combinations that few, could pull off.
He had an arsenal of punches; every punch you could throw he did it, and could knock you down with. His bob and weave, head movement, foot-work from side to side setting up his punches, few are able to do at such a weight...not to mention the guy is one of the fastest heavwyeights ever, and probably the fastest power punching heavyweight in modern history.Last edited by Abe Attell; 05-03-2006, 02:29 PM.Comment
