There should be an entire forum dedicated solely to threads about Mike Tyson's power.

tyson had great power in both fist, unlike frazier who was just a killer left hook...and besides the power when he had u hurt he would finish you off really quick, so holmes saying mike wasnt the hardest hitter he faced is bs, shavers was over the hill and knocked him down once....tyson knocked him down 3 times in one round, the last seconds before the round was overComment

Could an argument not be made for tyson being the hardest puncher ever because unlike shavers, foreman and liston tyson knocked out guys with good chins . Tyson was one of the few men to floor tubbs and berbick and knock them out . The only man to knock out holmes and spinks. The only man to ever put brian nielson and pinklon thomas on the deck. Tyson knocked out tillman and stewart who also had good chins.Comment

I think Tysons power isnt overrated. If you say he was the hardest hitter ever, or even when he was competing that might be overrating him.
The garbage heavyweights couldnt stop Tyson hitting them is why they lost. But the man obviously hit hard. Ask Lennox Lewis if he thinks Tyson hit harder than him.Comment

Did you ever hear the story about Mike Tyson going to the zoo? He wanted to, in his infinite wisdom, with his brainless testosterone, and with his deep pocket book, to fight a gorilla. He said that with his power he could knock out a massive, full grown Gorilla. Mind you, this was back when he was heavyweight champion. He had respect, money, fans...he could have afforded to. Heard about it?
Well, what is not known is that two years after losing the championship, with his fame slightly waning and his best days past him Mike took a visit to Prague. The zoo there was applauded for its primate housing- and Tyson befriended one of the keepers. Now, people will be people- with their greed and momentary lapses in common sense and decency. Reportedly for a $15,000 American Tyson was allowed in the Gorilla sanctuary for ten minutes- left alone. He was told that, should he be caught or need help, the keeper would tell them Tyson broke in...take no responsibility. Entering the cage Tyson confronted a male Silver back Gorilla who was, at first, skittish and very aggressive. Being careful not to get immediately attacked Tyson was able to get close enough to, with all his force, hit the animal with a strong hook.
According to the keeper he stunned the animal- which staggered backward like it had been electrocuted, looking drunk, before falling down into a sitting position. When the gorilla got up it was angry, irate- and went to two legs screaming, barring its teeth- and Tyson had to run. He would have been mauled to death. Years later, when the keeper had left the zoo, he sold his story to the media.
Tyson has never directly confirmed or denied the story- but comments over the years to those close to him make it seem likely.Last edited by Njord777; 12-20-2006, 06:50 PM.Comment
