Gonna call BS on this. Wilder's team immediately said the match is cancelled before the real invesigation even began. Now he's all of a sudden wishing it was Povetkin?
Don't get me wrong, the Meldonium drama is completely Povetkin's fault, but Wilder took this chance to run the hell away from this fight - I don't exactly blame him, since fighting in Russia is a dangerous proposition.
But let's not act like Wilder wants to fight Povetkin.
Dude loves to fight...don't project your fear-based life onto Wilder.
Well we know Povetkin didn't want Wilder.Comment

If he wishes it was Povetkin why did he pull out of the fight?
They postponed it for more testing. Subsequent testing came back clean. Povetkin is still mando.
It was Wilder who tucked tail and cancelled the whole thing. Nobody else. There is no other organization that made that move.
How I see it he was forced to fight Povetkin or vacate. He took the money to fight Povetkin but didn't feel confident. At the first hiccup, a legal microdetection of a recently banned substance that came up clean in retesting, Wilder's team saw an escape window and took it.
His team is very crafty, crafty indeed.Comment

They just took the opportunity to bail on the fight before the investigation concluded. Lame. It was the most interesting HW bout this year. Extra lame move now that Povetkin tested clean right afterwards.Comment

This whiner... geez. So here's the challenge... find ONE recent interview where he doesn't whine about the Povetkin issue. And that will still be the challenge in 2-3-4-5 years. How much mileage does this goofball think he's allowed on the issue anyway?Comment

It makes sense Povetkin remains the mandatory because there has been no conclusion to the incident as the investigation is still ongoing. To clarify, Povetkin has not been cleared yet as your comment would suggest.
Furthermore, why would Wilder voluntarily put his career on hold while the investigation continues? Would you demand Povetkin offer Wilder that courtesy if the roles were reversed? Wilder is already on record as being su****ious of Povetkin before the failed test, where's the motivation for him to believe Povetkin could possibly be clean?
Lastly, has Povetkin explained why he was taking heart medication in the first place? I'd be interested to know his answer...
Provided he's cleared and passes all subsequent tests, there's no reason Wilder can protest this fight.Comment
