This is actually pretty good signs for Showtime. Their ratings are trending upward now. If they weren't competing with HBO head to head, that card probably would have been the most viewed card of the year for Showtime.

Showtime's subscribers got used to seeing no relevant fights on the channel for over a year, but now they are coming back. I know HBO "won" the H2H matchup on Saturday, but those numbers shouldn't be that close to each other.

Showtime did what they normally do. HBO numbers dipped drastically. I see people blaming Lomachenko's numbers on going head to head with Showtime but the numbers don't suggest that. It looks like Showtime didn't really pick up a significant number of viewers while HBO lost a significant number. Am I wrong? Am I missing something?

My guess is that both fights took a hit from going to head to head. Like I said in my previous post, Showtime's ratings have started to trend upward since they have put on a consistent schedule now of quality fights. I expect the fights toward the end of the year to peak above 600 and 700K as long as we keep getting Santa Cruz/Frampton and Jack/DeGale level fights.

So it looks like Provodnikov/Molina weren't affected because of its average ratings, but I believe that the fight really should have been higher.

The fight card with the junior middleweights was the second highest rated card this year. Did you expect this card to do better than this card? I didn't. It was near it and about what I expected because of previous cards. So that doesn't explain why HBO card did significantly less than normal while SHO card did about the same as usual. SHO didn't pick up viewers HBO lost.

No fighter ever became a "draw" with very few significant wins...

Floyd, manny, marquez, Wlad, cotto, Canelo are the only dudes who have been in enough big fights to have a huge name awareness.. Lomachenko really got on the map with this performance, and should start developing a bigger profile, but to think he would be some huge draw at this point is absurd..

Andrade/Nelson and Lomachenko/Martinez were the best fights of the evening..I wish I could send the networks a gigantic post card that read, "Hey smart guys, competing is ******, we want to watch all of the fights so stop airing at the same time!!!"

Why all the crying about how much Lomachenko makes? You ever think he signed a contract with a minimum purse guarantee? Same as Bradley,Pac etc.... Top rank seems to hand those out to guys....

And of course nobody knows who he is, he's had like 7 fights, most on under cards... People should get to know who he is though because he's fun to watch...

This is my general feeling. The HBO number was low, but it was Lomachenko's first main event and the first time he'd had a fight on regular HBO in over two years.

Furthermore, it was up against a SHO card where the headliner (Provodnikov) actually had more exposure on HBO than Lomachenko had as the HBO headliner.

But look at all the post-fight coverage...it's all Lomachenko.

Lomachenko's performance is probably more important than the ratings, if HBO liked the performance and thinks there's room for growth in the ratings.

I went back and looked at Golovkin's early numbers on HBO...his fight with Proksa did 685k and his next fight against Rosado did 813k.

We'll see if Lomachenko has a similar increase in his ratings the next time he fights...and if he has an opponent like Vargas or Salido, perhaps in the So Cal market, there probably will be a significant increase in the ratings.
