exactly. There either was a contract or their wasnt. Shouldnt have been any gray areas on this one........

And if the found Canelo did in fact breach a contract and had to pay $8.5 million, then how is it that Golden Boy didnt "interfere" with said contract?

The 2 rulings seem to be in conflict with each other........
Just because it was found that there was no contract doesn't mean money isn't owed. It just means that there isn't an enforceable contract. So neither party can't be bound by the alleged terms. A contract fails for many reasons.

But there are other theories to get money namely quasi contract or unjust enrichment. This means that even if there is no enforceable contract the law allows a party to collect for a benefit conveyed on performance of the unenforceable contract. So if services were rendered the law allows reasonable compensation for those services or benefits NOT the contract rates or value of the benefits. that is likely why all star asked for a lot more but only got a third.

As for Oscar for intentional interference of business relations they have to prove that Oscar new of the all star arrangement and then still contracts to promote Canelo. The jury probably found that Oscar did not know of the agreement or the more likely scenario was that the unenforceable contract negates any possibility of interference. I.e. How to you interfere with a contract that didn't exist. There are many possibilities.

On appeal the only thing. Reviewable are errors of law. So if the court made a error of law that is not deemed harmless the appeals for will send it back for a do over.

The juries decision and amount (error of fact) will not be questioned. So if there are no errors the 8.5 million sticks. What will likely happen since neither party ant to be in court for another 6 years is that they will settle and Canelo will Likely pay 4-5 mill.

Huge win for golden boy. Canelo will appeal and likely pay a fraction of this. Allstar was asking for the moon it was clear they wasn't going to get no 27mil. LMAO my guess is they settle on something like 3 or 4mil.
