1) There aren't that many professionals competing, in fact, I couldn't name any top-level boxers that are.
2) There are guys who are strictly career amateur boxers--- and they are that damn good.
3) Amateur boxing is different than professional boxing. Styles make fights. The rounds are much shorter than a professional fight.
4) Amateur boxing isn't a bunch of 18 year old kids. The average age at the last Olympics was about 24-25 years old. Plenty of guys pushing 30 years of age competing as well.
It's still in the air and they're planning to vote on it.
I just want to know from boxing fan's point of view. If they can beat the amateurs or not.
Of course they can. They can lose to. It'll depend on who the pro is & who the amateur is. It depends how successfully a pro adapts to a quicker pace & less rounds which I could see going either way for different guys.
People talk about this all weird. This isn't gonna be amateurs vs pros. Like some sort of TV game show. This is gonna be all pros within an Olympics or two (2020 or 2024).
This Olympics is more of a false start with boxing pros involved from the sounds of it. The Olympics has been going to an all pro format for the last several decades with only boxing & wrestling allowing amateurs. That wasn't gonna be an infinite situation.
