Chavez was going to struggle no matter when he faced oscar because he was just too damn small for oscar. Oscar went on to win titles at frigging Jr middleweight and even middleweight. Chavez won titles up to Jr welterweight. So he was NEVER going to hurt Oscar who had an iron chin that bigger fighters and bigger punchers such as Trinidad, Vargas, Quartey, Mosley, Mayorga couldn't dent. So there is no version of Chavez that was going to ko Oscar. And he damn sure wasn't going to outbox him. In 2 fights Chavez won 1 single round that's it. Judges had it 3-0 the first fight and 7-in the second before the stoppages. Now a prime Chavez puts up a better fight and likely doesn't see his face fall apart like we saw in both fights but because the size difference he was doomed.

he struggled with boxers in his prime like Whitaker and Taylor. Oscar either stops him late or boxes his ears off. It was just a terrible size and style match up for smaller chavez.

I will say this, at 33 with only 1 loss Chavez was called shot when Oscar fought him while he was 23....amazing how things change when a fighter at 36 beats a 23 year old who was bigger and 45-0

Revision history because of how badly chavez was beat up. He was not shot when oscar fought him. He was still world champion and seen as the true 140 champ it wasnt like he was a paper champ and he was on everybody's top 10 p4p lists. He just wasnt in his prime any more but he was still a top fighter. The chavez that kosta tsyu beat half a decade later was a shot fighter. Similar to how Floyd beat a no longer prime but still damn good oscar while Manny beat a shot oscar.
