    6 possible canelo opponents.

Yesterday according to Eric gomez 6 different fighters are being considered for canelos next fight. They are

    1. Floyd Mayweather
    2.liam Smith
    3. Danny jacobs
    4.miguel cotto
    5.billy Joe Saunders
    6. Gennady golovkin.

Amongst these 6 I see the cotto and Smith fights being the more realistic for simple reasons. Saunders, jacobs, and golovkin will not entertain canelos 155/154 nonsense. Floyd will still be the A side to canelo, and will probably want the fight at 152 again, something that canelo regrets to this day. Only cotto and Smith will meet canelo at canelo weight, and of the 6 opponents, they represent the least risk. So don't be surprised if we see canelo-smith,or canelo-cotto 2 in September.

If only gg had the heart to go to 155 they would have fought already. Now canelo has go take over the 154 division

The orders are to stay away from Golovkin for a while...I don't even think the weight matters. Realistically, Golovkin probably would've dropped a couple pounds if that fight was possible in September.

I think the only name on that list that is possible is Saunders. I still think Lemieux is possible too but that is a big risk because of his power and size.

I think the Liam Smith thing is a joke. Remember HBO doesn't have it in the budget to give Canelo a fight this year unless it is PPV....less than 10 people in the United States even know who Liam Smith is.

Edit: Cotto is obviously a possibility too but he would have to fully accept the B side treatment now, and his pride may be to much for that.

          My breakdown

Mayweather - 0% chance, Floyd is retired + ODLH has said some nutty **** in regards to how the money would be split up that makes zero sense

Jacobs - 5% chance, Jacobs has a fight lined up for July 30(?), that would only give him minimal weeks to train for Canelo + there is still issues with Haymon & ODLH that likely would impede this from happening

GGG - 10% chance, I think its plausible that Canelo has seen the error in his ways with giving up his title to GGG & will wanna redeem that stance quickly, problem here is while I think GGG & Canelo would both be willing to fight each other I think ODLH isn't so keen on that thus this fight happening in Sept. seems a longshot at best after the failed talks last month

BJS - 20% chance, I actually love BJS's chances vs Canelo & I think I'd actually make him my pick if the fight got made, but BJS seems to be his own worst enemy with fight talks & I could easily see him price himself out or just him or Warren misplaying their hand some other way.

Liam Smith, 25% chance, I think Smith might be the weakest link to a title & I think he could easily be chosen for that exact reason.

Cotto, 40% chance, Iole has stated that this fight has been discussed already & that its already been agreed to in principle & with Cotto's seemingly other most likely opponent, Marquez, being sidelined I think these two are solid options for one another & despite the lack of entertaining first fight is still likely to be the biggest PPV fight besides GGG (although with GGG's poor PPV debut I don't think its a given that would be the case).

He ain't fighting floyd, Saunders, ggg, jacobs

Liam, or cotto 2 since marquez is injured

Wouldn't be surprised if it was some blown up welter like Maidana, bradley, etc

No lemuiex???? I think that's the best fight for Canelo if he is serious about getting ready for a ggg fight

Most likely opponents are Cotto, Matthysse, a rematch with Amir Khan, etc.

Canelo isn't fighting a legit middleweight because that might put pressure on him to fight Golovkin again and we all know the dude is a coward. Yes, a coward. Lots of people who have never trained a day in their life would fight Golovkin for $10,000. Canelo has spent his life preparing for this moment and is turning down millions. He is a cowardly individual.

I don't have any interest in a rematch with Cotto or Mayweather. I suppose a fight with Smith would be okay. I'd rather him go up to 160 and fight Lemiuex, GGG, or Jacobs

It's going to be Liam Smith or Cotto. None of the other choices makes sense.

                    Floyd- Retired

BJS-Jacobs- Neither can make 155 and wouldn't even entertain that offer. If Canelo is going to test the waters against a true MW I'd suspect it would be against Lemiuex or Rosado. Probably Rosado at 157. Lemiuex can't make 157.
