This did not happen to me, but it was told to me by one of my wrestling teammates from college from the early 90s.
My teammates were staying at a hotel in downtown Indianapolis and it was the same hotel Ali was staying at on that particular day. Unbeknownst to my teammate they were staying right down the hall. They were hanging out in the room and hallway and Ali and his entourage walks past and of course everyone is just stunned and they sort of talked in hushed tones as he walks past. They retreat into the room and talk. A few minutes later they hear a rap on the door and in walks Ali and a few other guys. Everyone just stand and stares. Ali looks around the room and then says "Which of one of you called me *******!?" My friends are stare with their mouths open in sheer terror. After a pause, Ali and his entourage starts busting out laughing! Ali proceed to shake hands and sign autographs.
I wish I would have been there!
