Did Canelo duck Golovkin while Canelo had the belt? Yes.
Is Canelo ducking Golovkin now? Nope.

i'd do the same thing, but by any objective criteria, where the purity of competition is what is important, it is a blatant duck.

that's the biggest fight to be made in boxing, and GBP and team are crapping on golovkin like he's not a deserving opponent :lol1. meanwhile, they've created a weight class to keep up the mirage that canelo is better than he is by putting him in with smaller guys. khan was chinny at LW, FFS
Your right. Canelo might be willing to fight GGG but Oscar is scared to death of Canelo fighting GGG. Instead of just admitting it Oscar is acting like a true promoter and making excuses and saying the fight will happen down the road, it needs to marinate and other such promoter type BS. In fairness to Canelo, Khan was just too delicious of cherry not to pick. Canelo has fought top fighters just as big as himself in Trout and Lara so he isn't always picking on smaller guys. He was set to fight Paul Williams just before Williams was in the bad accident and Williams was both big and good.

Why else would he vacate the WBC middleweight belt.

He and his team should've been straight up instead of being fake paper-champs, taking on little Khan at a catch weight but refuses to fight GGG at the actual Middleweight limit

Mexicans and Canelo fans can suck a fat one, your Irish-Mexican is a sissy.

"We are not ready for GGG yet."
      Because he's not a middleweight.

It's one of the biggest most blatant ducks in recent history. Dude just handed his belt to Golovkin. Usually ducking is quite tricky; promoters make excuses, maybe an "injury" pops up, maybe there are network issues, money excuses and so on, all done to create the perception that the fighter is certainly not ducking. Not here. It was "you have 15 days to say yes or no to fight Golovkin next" and they, team Canelo, not only said no but gave the belt away. Pride, honor, out the window. It doesn't get more blatant than this especially in boxing where there's always some type of an excuse.

The whole situation sux. I was really hoping canelo would end the trend of waiting out fighters. It looked like he was heading that way but now this. Avoiding the fight, surrendering the lineal MW title. The fight could still be made l guess, but I doubt it will be anytime soon. It's a shame, canelo had a chance to truly be great. If he took the fight and beat ggg it would erase the loss to floyd and stamp canelo as The bad a$$. In light of current events, I feel it's appropriate to mention, I don't think Ali would of surrendered that title. He didn't wait to fight Liston. He didn't avoid Foreman, who was KO'ing dudes like ggg is now. Either way the situation sux. GGG will still be avoided by the top guys, depriving us fans of seeing how good he really is. And canelo will continue to fight and most likely win easier fights, also not showing how good he can be.

Canelo Alvarez has never weighed in for a fight above 155, he and his camp have apparently committed themselves to the belief that he's still a junior middleweight fighter, and Gennady Golovkin is unwilling to go down even 1lb to make the fight (with or without the belts apparently).

Alvarez wasn't willing to step out on fade just yet, but to listen to the media drivel about him "ducking" would be silly.

Alvarez is likely to fight Liam Smith at 154/155 this September, will likely close out the year with another fight 154/155, before formally dipping his toes in the water at 160 come May 2017 (most likely against a guy like David Lemieux/Curtis Stevens, smallish middleweights in their own rights).

Dude come on, canelo has definitely came in way heavier than 155. The media "drivel" about him ducking is canelos own fault, why the hell call ggg into the ring and make a big show of not being scarred and not f**cking around when he knew this was going to happen. I don't doubt canelo will move up to 160 but it will coincidentally be as ggg moves out of the division

Yes he is ducking GGG. Maybe on his own accord or maybe hiding behind advisors in his team and Golden Boy.

I know he should have the final say but i'd imagine Golden Boy are doing all they can to advise him not to. He's basically their biggest star and one of the only stars they have left. They have been building him into the image of boxings next superstar, they push that agenda hard. He's not even the superstar they say he is, most casual fans don't even know or care that much about him, apart from he's the ginger mexican that was clowned by Floyd. They already had to rebuild the image after that and that's the truth. The last thing they need is their biggest asset to potentially be sprawled out on the canvas being aired around the world.

I did actually think Canelo personally would fight GGG but then he's said made so many excuses and gone back on his word on things that it's hard to give him the benefit of the doubt. He said after the Khan fight, he doesn't care if it's at 160. A week later he gives up the belt so he can't be forced into a purse bid situation where it then HAS to be at 160..amongst many other things he has contradicted himself on.

At the end of the day though essentially when you're trying to convince the world you're the new superstar of boxing, the last thing you need is to potentially get smashed to bits and they know that's a possibility.

In return, I'd ask you just how have you been away from boxing? Did you live in the jungle or something like a desert or a mountain top?
When I say away from boxing, I basically means away from this site. Boxingscenes 99.9% of where I get my boxing info, other than maybe catching a PBC commercial, or a PPV commercial on TV.

I've missed so many boxing matches lately.

He's a middleweight in every sense of the word, besides actually weighing in at the 160 lb. MW limit. The guy comes in the exact same weight as most MWs, and is actually bigger than some MWs, and definitely on par, weight wise with most MWs.

He's bigger than GGG, just for your information.

                      Pretty simple stuff..

                      Canelo was moddleweight champ,

Golovkin was his mandatory as well as a unified titlist

They struck a deal to allow for interm fights, (canelo fought khan, GGG fought wade)

Were suppose to fight in sept for all the marbles

Canelo vacated title because "he didn't want mandatory deadlines, but claimed he was still negotiating the fight"

Canelo's camp has been dead silent ever since.....
