I don't understand this narrative that Khan and some are pushing. I did not have Khan winning that fight. I re-watched the fight several times, and Khan was missing most of those flashy punches that the HBO announcers were giving him credit for (many were complete misses, others just grazing shots with no power behind them). After round 1 Canelo was hurting Khan in almost every round, particularly to the body, and I never once saw Khan even coming close to hurting Canelo. So Khan was not even winning, let alone dominating. I had Alvarez sweeping rounds 3 through 6 for sure, and probably winning round 2 as well (which was close to Harold Lederman's score card).
And it was also not simply a one punch KO, although Canelo did literally knock the snot out of Khan (you can see this clearly on the second replay, the same shot you can see Amir's father - Shah Khan bury his head before Amir even hits the ground). Khan was getting hurt badly leading up to that punch. In that same round (rd 6 with 1:54 left) Amir was rocked badly by a three punch combination (right hook to the body, left hook to the head, followed by a left jab) about a minute before the KO, after which you could see Khan grimace. Canelo had been slowly breaking down Khan for about 4 rounds, getting closer with his big shots and connecting more (according to punchstats Canelo landed more punches than Khan and connected at a higher percentage, 38% to 29% total punches, with Canelo landing 51% of his power shots vs 36% for Khan). So IMO, I did not see Khan outboxing Canelo and this was not a competitive fight.
After the fight, ESPN reported that Canelo had the same kinds of problems with Khan as he had with Mayweather. I strongly disagree. When Alvarez fought Floyd he barely landed anything (46% to 22% total punches in Floyd's favor, with at 42% to 15% advantage in jabs and a 53% to 31% advantage in power shots). And at points in the fight Floyd was even walking Canelo down.
In his fight with Canelo, Khan was getting walked down and Canelo was cutting the ring off on him more and more. Also, Khan has no defense at all. He has this really bad habit of flailing his arms out and pulling his unprotected head back from punches (without really moving his head). Amir has never corrected this tendency, and when Canelo was catching him (or even the times when he barely missed him) Khan's head was completely unprotected. Khan is very stiff from the neck up, he has no fluid head movement. He moves his entire body to avoid punches. At one point, after round 5, HBO showed a replay after where Roy Jones was trying to say that Amir was not hurt by a Canelo left hook (Khan had his typical defenseless move where he flailed his arms out and got caught flush), but it was clear that Khan was wobbled by the punch, and his face also showed his pain as he grimaced after the shot.
