Has there ever been another sportsperson as charismatic?

      Tennis - McEnroe?
      Basketball -
      Soccer - Maradona?
      Baseball -
      Athletics -
      Combat sports -

Fill in the blanks. No Ali was pure genius.

Not that i know of, not to the level of Ali. I mean was Maradona even that charismatic? he was definitely a character and an amazing player but his personality is mostly known for being a loose cannon, not exactly for his charisma...same for McEnroe in a way. I'm sure there's an element of charisma in that kind of character though, which is why people were drawn to them.

Even Usain Bolt, he has a sense of fun about him but that's really only compared to other people in Athletics which is a sport that lacks characters.

I'd say boxing is the sport where people are more drawn to certain characters, whether they love or hate them. You don't get that in other sports as much, especially where they compete as individuals, not teams.

Boxing has actually thrown up a lot of charismatic characters throughout it's history, more than other sports but Ali was in a class of his own in that respect.

Well firstly he’s a friend of mine who has a wife and family who love him like mine loves me. His eyes were rolling into the back of his head and I’m not going to purposefully kill a man to satisfy a blood thirsty crowd!”
Ali on jimmy Ellis after their fight!
