Carl Froch has criticised the move to allow professional boxers to compete at the Rio 2016 Olympics, believing it would reduce the "prestige" involved in winning a gold medal. [Click Here To Read More]
Unless the fights are going to be all 8 rounds or more, why would any pro try this?
it's easy. amir khan doesn't ahve to get knocked out again. he might rack up millions in endorsements without breaking as sweat.
now, if alll the pros join, i'd afgree with you. it would be hellish to fight your way through a tournament format against top profesionals. but if it's just a few pros qualifying in each weight class they're going to have an easy time of it.
i don't think a lot of people understand the implication involved with combining an amateur sport with a professional one. believe me, if these amateur kids could compete with pros they'd be out of the amateurs and making millions instead of fighting for free.
Froch gets it. Pure business move by the AIBA as they're trying to get a slice of the professional game. And they're destroying a great competition to do it.

Any pro who participates ought to be ashamed of themselves. You're taking away opportunities from up and coming kids, fighting the young guys who have yet to see this kind of competition, and have the nerve to do so as if you are honoring your country
I thought he was going to say that pro's would eat up the am's and embarrass them. I think with no head gear, it makes what Froch said a bust, personally.
In fact, if a pro thought they had to get the KO to win in 3-4 rds, it would make an exciting fight. Never mind the slow starters. A fight is a fight.
That said, I think if you do any sport professionally, you shouldn't be allowed to compete in the Olympics.
