Comments Thread For: Arum on Possibility of Gilberto Ramirez vs. Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.

There was a time when Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (49-2-1, 32KOs) was the apple of Bob Arum's eye, now that distinction belongs to newly crowned WBO super middleweight titlist Gilberto Ramirez (34-0, 24KOs) - who won the title on April 9th by whitewashing Arthur Abraham and will make his first defense on July 23rd versus Dominik Britsch.

Bringing up the weight issue, though a potential problem, is a cop out

If the reunion with Freddie Roach/Fortune ends up sticking, Chavez will be on weight without any hangups.

The rub will come when Top Rank (Bob Arum), JCCJr Promotions (Chavez Jr), and the designated PBC promoter (Tom Brown if the fight is in CA/NV, Leijah-Battah if the fight is in TX) sit down to hammer out a deal.

Chavez Jr will insist on his rights to the Mexican TV money, and JCCPromotions/TGBPromotions will make sure that every other term that is up for debate (outside of the 168 limit, which will likely come with a side condition where Chavez Jr could buy himself an extra pound, with or without the belt) will fall in favor of Chavez Jr.

Is Arum going to sit for another fight negotiation where his former fighter dictates every single term to him, i doubt it.

Bob Arum has a point Chavez Jr. has never been disciplined and it has been awhile since he has made weight for a contracted fight. Until he makes weight more than 1 fight consistently I wouldn't waste time trying to make this fight.

From a business point of view it would well depending where it was at and from a boxing perspective it would be a somewhat evenly matched fight. Even though in my opinions Ramirez is a much better all around fighter.

Most likely the first fight Arum makes haymon do with him. Arum gets zurdo more exposure and haymon gets money back from wasting on fatass. Most likely itll be ppv

If Freddie can get Chavez Jr. in shape, then the 1st target must be GGG! Jr. could lose to GGG and the fight with Zurdo could still be big, but if Jr. loses to Zurdo, nobody will pay to see Jr. vs. GGG.
