Canelo needs to speak English to be star, props to Zurdo for learning English

Zurdo Rameriez is taking the right steps, he has the height and the looks, now he is learning English, Canelo hasn't even bothered to learn the language, he could be an even bigger draw if he crosses over.

I think Zurdo knocks out GGG, too long too ranger for him and he can land clean shots.

Reminder; Canelo is already a star, in fact, the biggest in the sport right now.

You have to be lazy to not want to learn another language. There's languages I want to learn, but just don't have the drive to put in the effort. English and Spanish is as far I go. Props to Zurdo for learning English from scratch at an older age, I think it gets harder to learn new languages the older you are

I don't know. I think AJ is pretty close to eclipsing him.

No doubt but clearly a manufactured star, and Mexican fans may want something more authentic. Not sure if this guy is it.

Agreed, as big as canelo is right now he'd be a whole lot bigger if he learned English. Let's put it this way, if Julio Ceasar Chavez Jr, who has to be the laziest slob in boxing can learn English, then so can you!

He's already a big star and he can duck in Spanish so well that he doesn't need to learn to do it in English.

I'd bet money that Alvarez's English is just about as far along as Ramirez's English is; Alvarez simply doesn't believe that stammer/start-stopping his way to English is worth the risk to his star power.

When Alvarez commands himself in Spanish, he naturally draws the Spanish audience to him; I don't think he'd have anywhere near that confident, macho effect if he were to crap his way through interviews like Golovkin and early-Pacquiao (and Pacquiao still makes common syntax mistakes even today).

"Zurdo" Ramirez can't go on The Tonight Show/The Late Show/ Kimmell Live and really expect to get over with English like that.

Alvarez should keep practicing at home/off camera, continue to do his interviews in Spanish (subtitled whenever possible, or he could have Eric Gomez with him for the late shows), and only interview in English when he and his camp are confident that he sounds okay in English.

Canelo is a huge boxing star. As an English speaking fan of his I could care less if he learns English. Zurdo will need a lot more than a reach advantage to beat GGG. He will just be another KO victim if he fights GGG.

Was Duran fluent in English during his fighting days?
