Basically this. Arum wouldn't had went into hiding. He would've put on an all out PR attack against Golovkin, the WBC, HBO, K2. The fight couldn't happen because they can't find a venue big enough to stage it so he's having investors in Dubai build an outdoor stadium.

The smart thing for Canelo to have done would've been to give a plausible excuse to delay the fight that the vast majority of people couldn't knock him for. Given Canelo's history of taking on the best, he could've gotten a pass from fans (incl. Mexicans) and squeezed out another 1-2 160 opponents. Like Lemieux, an in house fight on which GBP would've taken double-commission.

Meanwhile Golovkin gets another year older and another couple of fights older while he waits for the diva.

Then Bob would've said, well we only had 1 fight to adjust to 160, we'd like a couple more but we wanna give it to the fans now—how about we do it at a 157 catchweight? (in the middle so that people say, "OK that's fair" but enough to drain GGG a bit.
